Q: Does this amplifier include the two batteries?

No, it just comes with a power supply.

Q: Does this need a DAC in order to work properly?

It needs an analog signal. So you could connect it directly to your computer using your computer’s headphone port. But I strongly recommend buying a DAC and connect it to your computer through A USB port. The O2 is an excellent amp. Adds no color to the music. And there is absolutely no noise. I use the Topping D10 DAC, available on Amazon for about US$90. The O2 is a great amp if your looking for an amp that lets you hear the music the way the arist and album producer intended it to sound. Also, it has enough power to comfortably drive headphones with as much as 600 ohms immedance.

Q: is there any difference between this amp and the Massdrop O2 Amp?

Hope this helps. I needed to drive Massdrop Sennheiser HD 58X Jubilee Headphones 150 ohms impedance this would not drive without distortion on games and music at standard gain (under 300 ohms). The massdrop 02 is great if pared with the massdrop DAC. Really consider your impedance.
