Includes bonus tracks! Holy Wood (In the Shadow of the Valley of Death) is the fourth studio album by American rock band Marilyn Manson. It was released on November 11, 2000 by Nothing and Interscope Records. Review: Deserves more than 5 stars! - The rating system is unfair. This album deserves 10 stars. I could be called a new Manson fan. I started listening to him when he released The Pale Emporer and ever since then I have gone back and discovered all his older music as well. While I like his newer stuff, I would have to say this album is among the best. I liked Antichrist Superstar...but this album. Wow. Manson is a genius and I am digging all the songs on this CD. The first song I heard off Holy Wood was Coma Black and that song hit me straight in the heart. Hard. It brought me back a few years ago when I felt I could have wrote that song myself and I started crying. I felt those words so strong. I understood them and heard what he was trying to say. Then I started listening to the rest of the CD and it quickly became one of my new favorites. The tone and lyrics are dead on. Manson is KING. Review: 10/10 - Came on time. Arrived without a scratch not even on the plastic wrap. Also it’s good music. So it was a great experience

Attention: Marilyn Manson Peaked Here...
Yes folks, this is Marilyn Manson at his best. After this album, Marilyn Manson would begin their decline. The Positives: John5's guitar work is at its peak on this album. Songs like "Disposable Teens", "The Fight Song", "The Nobodies", "The Death Song", "Lamb of God", and "The Love Song" are some of the finest Manson guitar tunes to date. Also, the lyrics reach their peak with this album. Lyrically, this album is a proper fuse of Antichrist Superstar and Mechanical Animals. Therefore, I believe this to be the peak of Marilyn Manson. Everything is running on full power (lyrics, guitars). The Negatives: None...every track on this record is very intelligent and enjoyable. Personal Favorites: The Fight Song, Disposable Teens, The Death Song, The Nobodies, Lamb of God, The Love Song, Coma Black, and King Kill 33.

cryptic triptych
manson takes alot of risks, and that is why i admire him as an artist. i don't personally care if he's really goth or not, or if he's really punk or whatever... i think the reason his work is interesting is because it cannot be so easily categorized. manson is very clever, and he manipulates his image, as well as the media, to create characters that are compelling. he attacks the main stream and yet has some how become part of it. it's very graceful, the way he reinvents himself. this album is evidently the last installment of a 3-part series -- the work, like the two former albums, stands on its own very well. the themes are developped into an interesting aural universe, and the lyrics, while sometimes overly dramatic, do address emotion in a very powerful and stark way. looking at the overall project i see an interesting pattern: the abhorred is elevated only to fall again into dismay. "antichrist" wriggled and squirmed through musty shadows and the monster was brought into the light and glorified on "mechanical animals." now the glitter is flaking off the worm as he experiences backlash and renewed emotional turmoil... very dark. very nice...

Awesome Commentary on America
People who say Manson is simply 'shock rock' must have never truly listened to one of his records. If you take to time to listen to what he's taking about you will find that the things he says are true. When he says things that are shocking such as "when we're dead, they'll know who we are," he is simply trying to show you that that is exactly how things are in America. When someone shoots up their school they become infamous. This whole album is meant to be a commentary and satire of America using the holy wood as a metaphor of America. When you think Manson is trying to "shock" you he is really just trying to make you think. The music itself is very good you will like it off you're a fan of industrial type music.

A Stone cold classic no two ways about it This is Mazzer best album it combines the the last two albums together in an almost perfect combination of industrial blazz and acousticy glam rock dramaticism. The cover is largely offensive to lots of people the lyrics equally so but this is an album with a much deeper thoughtful message than is given credit for the only reason for the offensiveness is because it upsets the higher ups. giving it more commercial ness there by selling more copies and spreading his message more. PErfect the album contains a number of mazzer hits like Disposable teens. Nobodies and fight song but there are some other really good songs , Evolution is a good one it is a rather symplistic song with a constant un wavering beat anf guitar riff but mazzers vocals over the top are really catchy and stay stuck in the mind. there are a load of others. Again te album is perhaps a bit long at 60+ minutes but it is pretty good

I love the album and I have a copy from the original print which is old and damaged so Idecided to buy a new one. In comparison the quality of the print is not as good as the original one and I was disappointed to see that for some kind of error during printing or design, the cards in the back are cut on the edges, you notice it because the white edge is missing or cut. I have the original so I can compare to how it's suppoused ot be and the orignial print does not have the images cropped.

This is probably one of Manson's best works to date. It seems that he was going for a dark tone in Antichrist, then he seemed to switch over to a lighter - although still Manson-like - brand of music with Mechanical Animals. Finally, with Holy Wood, he puts the finishing touches (or is it the beginning touches?) on a projected - and, frankly, confusing - trilogy he started before he was blamed for Columbine. It has some fantastic tracks on it, as well as a few that probably would've made the album better if they were kept off it. Ultimately, the only downfall this album has is its length. I find that, after listening to this album in its entirety, I get bored because it's so long. That being said, however, it's still one of the crowning achievements of Marilyn Manson. Plus, it probably has the most blasphemy/controversy, which really gets everyone thinking about what they believe and challenging everything. It's great!
