If you're developing applications that access Oracle databases, you can save time and trouble by having the database do more work for you. That's where this book comes in. It teaches you how to create effective SQL queries to retrieve and update the data in an Oracle database. It teaches you how to design and implement a database, giving you insight into performance and security issues. It teaches you how to use Oracle's procedural language, PL/SQL, to take advantage of powerful features like stored procedures, functions, and triggers. In short, it teaches you to write the kind of SQL and PL/SQL that makes you a more effective and valuable developer. Review: Excellent book to learn and reference later - Excellent book to learn and reference later. I like the style of Murach's books: left page with explanation of codes on right page. Concise and easy to look up and allow faster recall of the knowledge. It may not be much helpful for beginners though since beginners need slower learning. Review: Best programming book I've ever had! - I took a job which gave me the opportunity to do some work in SQL, which I'd never used. I found enough information online to get me through the basics, but when it got tough to do that -- especially because things can be specific to the platform -- I decided to get a book. There weren't a ton out there that mentioned SQL Developer and were geared towards my level, so the field was already narrowed down for me. How lucky I was that what I was left with turned out to be exactly what I wanted/needed! I just love how it's laid out! I start on the right page where there are examples and a bulleted list of what's happening. This has been fantastic when I'm already familiar with the concept because I don't waste a lot of time on it, but it also lets me quickly find the tips and tricks I haven't yet figured out on my own. When I need more than bullets, I move to the left page where the same focus is explained in paragraph form with more details. Not only am I finding it useful as I go through it page by page, but I can also see how it will be an ideal reference later on. For the most part, this book would probably help anyone relatively new to SQL but its references to Developer just made it that much more meaningful for me.

Good code example
Good book. Good demonstration of codes. But it lacks to explain the code or example in simple English. Examples are almost reading the code or keywords are explained in a way, only experience person understand. I am taking 1 star for that. Over all very good book with good code example. It also provides scripts to load all the example data in database, which you can follow very easily.
