Not happy
I bought this because I needed to make good resolution scans of some ABS automotive parts and make small changes. So far that is a full fail. I have jumped through a lot of hoops to use this unit and while it does technically "work" the finished product is not editable or correctable. The last step of scanning is to make a "mesh" - in my case the mesh removes all detail and makes the object a squishly blob. you cannot export without making a mesh and once you do mesh the item it is locked in place and not editable. I am not sure what use of this is. I did make ONE print from a scanned object clay template and it was an accurate representation of the "mesh" but the "mesh" obliterated all my carefully placed bolt holes and changed sharp corners in rounded puffy marshmellows. It looked like something a 3 year old would draw. How is this .01mm resolution? When I spend this kind of money on a product I also do not like to be hit with software add ons - like the $80 "quick scan" feature. The website said it's included, but what they mean is it is "included after you pay more money." It's just a scam. Software crashes on Windows Server 2012 r2 mid scan - although they make no promises that it will work. The lighting and space requirements make use much more complex than just "set on desktop" - I suggest reading manual before buying. I was able to find a spot with no bright lights (after sunset) and a clear background without any reflective surfaces - but I was lucky. My first 3 spots did not work. Also the unit will not scan anything with a white black or reflective surface - if you want to scan something that is white, black or reflective you need to coat it in matte grey paint. I did this and my scans got a lot better - but not everything can be painted... But even the best scans looked like crap after "meshing" them. Overall it was a waste of money.

Good price for the functionality.
This was my first entry into 3D scanning and I was skeptical. The Matter and Form *seemed* like a good choice, since it has good resolution and the price is better than the other options. I decided to take a chance and if I didn't like it I'd just return it. The software doesn't come in the box, you have to download it from their website. I don't have a CD drive in my computer anyway. I didn't know where the power button was on the scanner. It's the logo. Kind of different but OK... I was able to calibrate and to get a good scan of the toy duck it comes with, but the scan didn't have the top or bottom. So you have to scan your object a few times and combine the scans together. This was fairly easy to do in their software. Each scan only took a minute, cleaning up the little bit of noise in each scan took about a minute, then combining them was almost instant. I did spend about an hour playing with different ways to scan the duck before I really liked the combined results. I was able to mesh and get a nice STL file for my printer. They have a cloud service bevelpix to upload the scans as well. I haven't checked it out yet. I also scanned this sea shell because I wanted to test these 0.1mm claims. I did this one with "quickScan". My time scanning the duck paid off for the shell. I got the two scans I needed and this result (see picture) in 8 minutes. My conclusion: 5 stars. I like this machine. It works and it is accurate. I also enjoyed using it. The pictures are my duck scan and print and my sea shell original and scan.

Decent for the money
I bought this to try my hand at 3D scanning. First of all it does work. You need to read the directions, and then they have some videos out there that helps you get the most out of it. I am still learning but overall I am pretty happy with it. I have problems with it trying to go on the same port as another printer I have so I have to unplug it for it to work. I guess that isn't the printers fault. :) Those that are complaining about this scanner, I can only imagine that they either aren't following the instructions, haven't watched some tutorials or are rushing the process. For the money I don't see how you do better. Their tech support is great btw. I bought this from the Amazon open box selection. It arrived in very good shape. No issues there.

DOESN'T WORK AS DESCRIBED
MATTER AND FORM SCANNER, it does scan and is fairly usable for beginners how ever the alignment and mesh system are crude at best. bought this to scan a model of a babys hand. i scanned probably 100 times and watched all the youtube videos available, the finished scan was so bad it in no way looked like the item i was scanning, after giving up because it couldnt get the detail i was looking for, we switched over the the model of the babies foot and that scan was no better, scanned from every angel to get a perfect scan and the mesh and alignment are trash, i would not recommend this product to anyone. in this situation, you get what you pay for.....cheap scanner with cheap feel.

Nice product but didn't meet my needs.
After a day of trial and error, I decided that this 3D scanner wasn't going to be able to do what I wanted it to do. My desire was to scan scale models and miniatures of cars, figures, buildings, aircraft, etc. and be able to 3D print them at different scales. I wanted to be able to scan existing objects so that I would not have to learn 3D model creation (sculpting, drawing, etc.) or at least start with something that was nearly ready to print. I had high hopes for this scanner, but I couldn't get it to work well enough to be satisfied. I tried scanning a 28mm figure, a 1/48 scale automobile, a 1/10 scale articulated figure, and finally a small (about 4" x 4" x 2") scale model of the Alamo. Each time I tried various setting in MFStudio and different ambient lighting. Each time I ended up with a mesh model that was missing some part of the scanned object (a foot or tire, for example) or there was some addition to the mesh that wasn't true to the object. For example, see the attached photo of my Alamo scan. The scanner didn't pick up much of the roof, even when I scanned it at 90 degrees so that the entire roof was visible, and this is what I ended up with after merging three scans. I am not adept at 3D modeling, so trying to fix the scan by editing it with 3D modeling software (blender) was frustrating and time consuming. I finally decided I would have been better off creating my own 3D models from scratch vs. taking the time to scan and edit, and, as previously stated, my goal is to avoid having to learn much about 3D modeling software.

Don't listen to the haters
This way exceeded my expectations. The only other 3D scanner I've used is an Artec Spider, which retails for more than 20k. That machine, while able to get into crevices somewhat better, way clunky to handle, had many errors, and a non-intuitive software. This machine (MatterandForm) has a beautifully integrated no-hassle software package. the Quick scan works as described. I love that the lazy Susan and the vertical scanner really do it all for you. Editing out bad points (which happens on all scanners, don't be fooled) is easy to do, and merging multiple scans was painless. My scans have turned out fine. They aren't perfect, but that's 3D scanners in general. You're always going to have these issues, regardless of the machine. It has a nice compact design that folds up like an encyclopedia and can be filed away when not in use. I cant stress enough what a pleasant surprise the software was, and the online tutorial is pretty much perfect. This was def worth the money.

Trash Product, unusable results
Update on my review. This product is garbage and produces unusable results. Do not waste your money. And if you insist on purchasing this, I will be listing mine on eBay for much less than what you'll pay new. Original review. As of writing this, have not been able to make a successful scan on my own. After reading all the other reviews, I'm going to have to break down and call tech support. This is not a user friendly piece of equipment. Do not recommend. Will update once I get it working right.

Amazing toy but nothing more
Well this scanner is amazing toy that comes with great software but that's about it - it just a toy. If you wish to do some "reverse engineering" to be able to 3D print something, like miniatures and such , something more complex then simple cube and such .. well it's double but requires a lot of time investment both to do the scans (to really get all the details right I had to do 3-4 smallest step scans , each running like 12h) and in post processing. Well as I said - the software is amazing, support too, but the device itself... it's not even for 3D printing enthusiasts, it's for "early adopters" , to people that can spend almost $800 on something that main thing that they can do with it is to say "wow it works !". Well, I guess the main issue here is price , if it was $200 I would say, its ok, nice toy , I like it and give this scanner 4/5 but when you pay $800 (in my case including shipping and taxes almost $1000) you kind of expect more. Much more. There is "an issue" with other, more fit for use scanners , like structural light scanners with turntable cost $1700+ so I guess the price tag on this one is fair but not justified. Bottom line - if you need 3D scanner that does the job - get structural light 3D scanner that cost $2000+ , if you want to just "play" with it and see what this technology can offer to you and how it looks - you can get this one if you can allow yourself to throw away $800 for toy. On the technical size - there is one small issue - when I scan I always get rings from turntable appear on the scan. It probably means that while my scanner "Sits" on the table one of the corners is higher then other so beams hit turntable surface and reflect from it. I guess some "calibration" even manual, with "bubble level" tool or something like this in order. On the other hand this rings quite easy to clean out in software manually, it's just that it something I have to do each time, so it waists even more my time. I guess if software could detect this and remove automatically this could be an option too. Btw: did I already mentioned that software is great and easy to use ? :)
