Adds an extra layer of security, or at least, an extra 30 seconds of panic time during a break-in. Cons: Doesn’t stop the child from screaming “OPEN THE DOOR!” like you’ve locked them in an emotional prison. Not strong enough to keep out your in-laws, unfortunately. I now have to unlock two locks every time I get takeout. Inconvenient, but worth it for child containment. It’s also become my go-to way of saying “We are done going outside today.” The door’s locked, reinforced, and child-proofed. The tiny inmate is still inside. Success. I have a very old home, and at first, it seemed like the fit wasn't going to be right. Fortunately, even though I didn't install it as intended, it ended up fitting in and has been extremely sturdy. No young kid will be able to open it up, and the only way to break through would be to break down the door. That lock isn't budging.
