A hub means you need an intermediary electronic device that connects to your home wi fi and communicates with the smart light switch directly (i.e. it acts as an intermediary). Some smart switches require this hub (or intermediary). No hub devices connect to your home wi fi directly. A Neutral wire is an electric wire located in your outlet . It is typically a white wire. This must be present to use a smart switch, since the device requires power even when the light is switched off. If this is not present in your outlet you cannot use a smart switch. Some outlets only have three wires (i.e. red, black and a ground). Make sure you have the additional wire before ordering a smart switch.
