Accurate and affordable for home monitoring
I find this test to be accurate. However user error is probably more often the cause of incorrect readings and errors. Not always of course. If you are careful, and follow the instructions exactly I think you will get a accurate enough result to sufficiently monitor your a1c between lab work. The lancet is disappointing and sometimes does not puncture adequately. It can be tricky to push the blood collector and other part together firmly. The other surprising point is how many users complain about accuracy but even glucose monitors with test strips are not required to be exact there is an allowable percentage for them to be deemed sufficient. It is convenient, reasonably priced and the more you use it the easier it is to use.

Make sure to shake the test unit a bit!
I am frequently testing my A1C since I have a DOT physical renewal coming up. I'm a type 2 with absolutely horrid blood sugars. But in recent times I overcame my food addiction and learned to take better control of my blood sugars. Thankfully 3 out of the 4 tests worked and represent the efforts of my diet change. The 1st test failed. After reading some advice to shake the unit itself a little bit after injecting the blood sample. I haven't had any issues ! Awesome test. Since an A1C costs around $45 where I live.

Not Accurate Enough to Have Any Value
The test is supposed to measure your average A1C level over the past three months. I took two tests one day after the other (after overnight fasting on both days). Given that the test measures your average blood sugar over the past three months, the readings should have been quite similar. Additionally, on the second day test, I also went to my doctor's office lab and had a professional test done (within about 5 minutes of doing one of the Self Check A1C tests). My values were: Self Check A1 C Test Day 1: 5.0 Self Check A1 C Test Day 2: 5.4 Doctor's Office Professional Lab (same days as second self check): 5.8 So the two Self Check A1C values were off by .4 and .8 from the professional lab. I would say the test would need to be within .1 or .2 of your actual A1C to have any real value, so this is essentially a pointless test. Additionally, when I ordered the test, they sent four tests with an expiration date 6 months out. If you're going to test once every three months (given the test measures your average A1C over the past three months), then the expiration date needs to be at least 9 months out for a four-pack test. (Test 1: right away, Test 2: 3 months later, Test 3: 6 months after first test, Test 4: nine months after first test)

Accuracy is just OK
I bought these, along with a two-test pack of Walgreens A1c tests. Theoretically, the look to be from the same manufacturer, however I found the A1cNow version to have some accuracy issues. It's seems to read .3 - .4 high over the Walgreens version, confirmed via a lab A1c test shortly after doing a comparison, which matched the Walgreens version exactly. I used both Walgreens tests over the course of two months or so, and a similar number of the A1cNow tests, and this discrepancy was borne out over all tests. So, these are OK, and are fairly easy to use, but if you think the results don't match your expectations, maybe you got a bad batch? Pros: * Pretty easy to use, if you're used to finger sticks * Results are read pretty quickly (5 mins) Cons: * Kind of expensive, but that's the case with all home A1c tests * Accuracy is somewhat suspect, but not hugely out of whack (.3 - .4) * Lancet device is junk - it either misfires (one-shot), or hits way too hard. Use your own lancets.

great readings
I have used this test kit for years now and it is always right on point . If I am going in for lab tests , I test that morning so I can see if it will match what comes back from the lab . It is always the same . I am fasting on both tests . I recommended this brand .

Blood tester
Easy and quick. Only drawback is that instructions say don't cover tester in blood but you do need a big size drop
