KEENTECH 3/8" x 1/8" Carbide Tipped Countersink Drill Bit with Depth Stop

I used this on MDF that I needed to blend with some trim around a fireplace. This is a great option and value: it did the job well. The holes were perfectly smooth and there were no marks from the depth stop. Definitely try on a piece of scrap material first to check your depth, etc. My opinion I that unless you’re doing some fine woodworking, or your holes (which you will likely attempt to cover) are highly likely to be visible in your end product, there’s no reason to look beyond this bit. The bearings aren’t quite as smooth as shown in the product video (spinning the depth stop doesn’t carry any momentum really), but do work well enough for their purpose. I found the depth measurement a little confusing, but trial and error on a piece of scrap solves that. Non-negative numbers are marked but seem to increase as you reduce depth, so I’m not sure what they mean. Also, the pilot bit depth is not adjustable, so you cannot easily use this to pilot through an outer piece and the piece it will be screwed to; you will probably have to make your countersink holes and then follow up with an equally sized bit through that into your underlying piece, etc. This is my first countersink bit, so I don’t know if that’s common, but I thought I saw some with adjustable and/or replaceable pilot bits. I have no regrets that I didn’t drop substantially more cash on a bit I’ll likely use only sparingly.

I was excited to get and use this bit. Unfortunately the drill bit was next to impossible to adjust and the set screw ended up getting stuck and rendering the bit useless and unusable. *Review update* I changed my review from 2 stars to 5 based on a few things. First of all Keentech independently reached out to me to offer a full refund. I instead asked for a replacement, which was sent out and I received 2 days later. I then used the product again and it was clear the first bit I got was defective. The new bit works brilliantly and the depth stop is amazing. I’m sincerely happy I got a working bit as I was excited to try it the first go around. Outstanding customer service and a great product when not defective.

I'm building a new woodworking shop from scratch. I say that but I had an Amish crew put up the building. It's a 20 x 30 sitting on a concrete slab. I've insulated and finished the interior. I built a new mobile workbench with router lift and acting as the out feed for my table saw. Now I'm building cabinets and work stations around the perimeter of the shop. These cabinets will house my band saw, planer, jointer, drill press, scroll saw, sanding stations and my Dremel setup. As you can imagine, having a drill bit like this that does not mar the work surface has saved me a lot of time. I have a lot to do yet to finish this project but it coming along and it's a lot easier to do when you have the correct tools. IF you looking for one of these, give this a try. It's worth it IMO

This is a dream answered.... I drill many holes for recessed screws. This is the best method I have found and is so easy to be precise.

If you don't need to adjust the drill bit, and never want to take the bit out, then this item might be fine. The trouble is, it is basically impossible to adjust or remove the drill bit. First, it wouldn't loosen for adjustment when I wanted it to. Then, in my amazement, it fell out and I couldn't even put the bit back in. I can only imagine that more-reputable brands of this item have better systems for this functionality. For me, I think I'll have to return this bit and buy something better.

A little finicky to adjust it would’ve been nice if the drill bit itself was a little bit longer, but it worked pretty well.

A tiny bit of scratching which could just be me, but did the job I needed it to very well.

This is a great countersink drill cuts very clean . The only thing I would recommend is if they provided a couple of different length drill bits
