a beautiful book written to accompany the Sargent and Paris show.
This book accompanies the show that just closed at the Met and (as I write this) will open soon in Paris. It contains large, very good quality illustrations of paintings, drawings, notebooks, and photos. There are 9 chapters which discuss young Sargent, his art education, his friends, experiences, and career while he was in France. It also includes the Madam X episode, his subsequent move to London, and discusses how the painting style he learned from Duran stayed with him throughout his career, as did his strong affinity for the language. If you are interested in Sargent this is a very nice book.
