No, 4.2lbs appears to be the shipping weight. The monitor is 1.76lbs (according to ASUS specs). Adding the carrying case and cable it's about 2lbs, all in.

What is the difference between this and mb168b+? the number increased by 1 to mb169.

The mb168b+ has a WLED/TN Panel, Brightness(Max) : 250 cd/m2, Contrast Ratio (Max) : 600:1The mb169b+ has an IPS Panel, Brightness(Max) : 200 cd/m2, Contrast Ratio (Max) : 700:1In other words, the 169b+ offers a better viewing angle and it is a bit crisper but also a bit duller or less vivid. I guess you can't win 'em all!

can this be used as a field monitor from a dslr ? Does it have an hdmi input?

You can connect the dslr to a capture carg and then the capture card to it ... I ordered the monitor and waiting for the delevery .. I come back and give you correct answer ..

does the stand it comes with allow portrait and landscape layout?

Yes. It isn't a free-standing stand as you'd normally understand it to be - it is merely the carry case where bits at the front fold over to create a 'slot' to hold the screen, either vertically or at a slight slope. You can do this either way with the screen.
