Level Lock+ with Apple Home Keys

When I first saw these I was skeptical of the company, its features, and everything about it as I wasnt sure they would live up to the hype or their advertising but these exceeded my expectations by a mile (and then some). First off, these are some of the simplest, most elegant smart locks Ive ever seen. Ive used the August smart locks in the past, and recently even the newer Aqara ones but these are SO much better. You pay a small premium for these over the other ones I mentioned but its well worth it for how much better these are. Although the aforementioned ones meet different needs for different people, I think these ones are for those that want to maximize functionality while keeping aesthetics intact. The others are too bulky and take up way more room than they should and while the August ones are much quicker to install, and the Aqara has a keypad integrated, these just look so much better that its almost not even worth considering the other options. Home Keys with my phone or watch work SUPER quick and the lock has NEVER been disconnected or unreachable in the home app. Its super simple to share access with other people and the installation is very straightforward (as long as you dont have messed up door jambs like I did). The only issue Ive ever had with these is that it sometimes says its jammed if you haven't fully turned the paddle all the way over. Which to be honest isn't even the lock's fault but sometimes its so close to being fully turned its strange to see it consider it to be jammed. Only other gripe I have with it is that the battery is an odd size. This honestly couldn't have been solved in any other way on their part but an option to somehow hardwire these would be great. So far the battery life has been excellent, its been installed for about 6 months now but I am curious to see how these will fare compared to other locks Ive had in the past.

This product is so sleek and works great when it works, which unfortunately for us is only about 10% of the time. This thing claims to have a battery that lasts 6 months with up to 10 locks/unlocks per day but we are CONSTANTLY replacing the battery at least once a week if not more. And we typically only unlock to leave our home for work and when we come back from work in the evening, nowhere near the claimed typical use. The Level app sends no notifications at all either, so sometimes we will see a “battery critically low” warning if we open up the app but oftentimes it is dead with no warning and our house is left unlocked! We have successfully connected it to Apple HomeKit but for some reason the only way to control it with HomeKit is by actually going into the Home app… the apple wallet “key” or the “tap your phone or watch to unlock” feature have NEVER worked for us despite spending countless back and forth emails with support. The Level key cards that came with it have also never worked for us either! We have even added the level connect hub which allows us to actually see the status of the lock and remotely operate it in the Level app from afar (IF the lock isn’t already dead) but has not helped enable any of the other features. Overall extremely disappointed in what is by far the least reliable smart home device we have ever bought.

First let me start off by saying I am very pleasantly surprised by this lock. I am one of those people that was resistant to upgrade to a smart lock as I generally avoid unnecessary technology. I definitely am in the "don't fix it if it aint broke" camp. I had a digital keypad lock from Intech on my front door that was very frustrating as the battery died pretty quickly and you had to press the combo in just the right way for it to work. We limped along with this lock for years. Finally, for her birthday, my wife asked me to handle to door situation because she was fed up with it and wanted to convert to a smart lock. I was worried about level lock being unintuitive or clunky, but boy was I surprised by its ease of installation and use. My wife basically did the whole thing herself. I have t say the workmanship of the lock is fantastic. The finish is beautiful and you can tell it's built well. It has a really satisfying feel and feedback when locking/unlocking. There are several things included that really indicate the company thought this product through. For example there is a deadbolt extender that allows you to lengthen the bolt. They also include keycards so there are multiple ways to gain access. You can use the app, cards, or a physical key (included in the box). The app itself is great too. It's really beautiful to look at and functions equally well. The layout is logical and overall it's very stable. No battery drainage or anything. POSITIVES OF THE LEVEL LOCK: -Geo-fencing -Auto lock/unlock -Beautiful and functional app -Attractive and well-built hardware -Fit's existing door mount NEGATIVES OF THE LEVEL LOCK: -None! P.s. - You can tell from the photos that my door looks like crap but that has nothing to do with this lock. The old lock had a huge plate that was on it for years and the edge of the door split during initial install of the old hardware. Favorite feature: Auto-unlock - The door automatically unlocks when you step into BT range with your device. I just ordered the keypad that mounts anywhere in BT range which is a cool add-on product and I heard that they are releasing wifi capability to operate the locks remotely which will be amazing. Definitely buy one of these, you won't be disappointed, especially if you are like me and are looking for just the right amount of tech without added headaches.

I love these devices!! The Level Lock+ with the Matter firmware update has been a great addition to my home. As someone who has meticulously built a smart home ecosystem, I am very selective about the products I integrate, and I must say, this lock has exceeded my expectations. The Level Lock+ performs seamlessly within both Amazon Alexa and Apple Home ecosystems, including Apple Home Key. Its sleek and modern design, without the bulky external smart hardware and button keypad, sets it apart from other products that often look dated and cheap. Not only is it visually appealing, but the lock's strength and security are also top-notch. The ANSI Grade 1/A rating gives me peace of mind knowing my entryways are more secure compared to the conventional bolt locks I replaced. Installation was a breeze! The provided hardware fits perfectly into predrilled doorframes, although it's worth noting that the bolt bore size is larger than standard locks, which aligns with the Grade 1/A rating. Setting up the lock within my smart ecosystem was straightforward. Although I encountered a few hiccups while connecting to the second ecosystem, the Level Home Experts on the Customer Support team were incredibly engaging and knowledgeable. A special shout-out to Ruth and Courtney for their exceptional support. This an outstanding product that has enhanced my smart home experience and home security environment. If you are future proofing your home ecosystem with MoT, you will appreciate this product.

This lock is really good if you use Homekit and don't want a keypad on your front door (Level does offer a separate keypad if you need one). I had been using the original Kwikset Kevo touch with a 3rd party Homekit integration through Homebridge. It was solid, but the API was not officially available to the public and they evenytually made changes to it that broke the intergration... Anyway, my wife really didn't want a keypad on the door and I wanted Homekit integration, so Level Lock was one of the few options. First, the good. The lock is really no bigger than a standard deadbolt, impressive considering the technology within. They claim the battery will last 6 months. We shall see. No tools required to replace the battery, as the deadbolt unscrews to reveal the compartment, very convenient. The Homekit integration has also been solid. Neither door is that far from my AppleTV and just to be safe I enabled the range boost and other than a few hiccups (which I'm not even sure were due to the lock) I've always been able to access them. I guess I should say if you do NOT have an AppleTV (or other approved home hub, I can't remember what else it works with), this is not the lock for you. I guess you could still use it locally over Bluetooth but I wouldn't recommend. Anyway, I primarily use scenes triggered either by Siri or automatically on a schedule and I've never noticed a failure to execute. Also the HomeKey works really great, much better than relying on a scene or action from the Home app when you're actually at the door. I just have a phone but it seems to work great on my wife's watch as well. Overall it really does everything I ask for it, even if it lacks some of the capabilities I had with the Kevo. What could be better? First of all, the install wasn't as clean as I hoped it would be. The plates for the door and frame are NOT standard sizes. I had to chisel out the indent to fit the new plates, both the area AND the depth, as the plate is a bit thicker than standard. In addition, the bolt itself is larger. This may not be an issue for everyone, but the hole in my frame wasn't large enough to fit it, so I had to enlarge that as well. I appreciate being able to change the battery through the bolt, but this was a royal pain. Lastly, I had planned to rekey the lock. But I didn't consider it wasn't a self rekey like Kwikset locks. Further, you have to disassemble the lock to get to the cylinder, exposing the internal circuitry. That last part is what I had issue with; I didn't want to damage it trying to get the cylinder out. I only had two locks so I decided just to deal with it. If I had 4 locks like at my old house, this would have been more of a problem. I'm not sure if any of the other manufactures, except Kwikset, is better in this regard though. Also, I was pretty annoyed that I couldn't see the lock history in the Level unless I was standing basically next to the lock. Even in the living room, just off the front door, it won't show it. I guess it isn't sync'd to a central server. I would guess the new (more expensive) Connect version rectifies this. Also, I found the touch feature rather useless compared to the Kevo, which I was surprised since the Kevo is quite old. Touch unlock is activated only when you come back into a geofenced area for your home and only for an amount of time (I believe configurable up to 3 minutes). I was expecting it worked like the Kevo, where the lock connected to your phone/app via Bluetooth to authorize the unlock. Since this "activation window" drained the battery and didn't work when staying inside the Geofence, I just turned it off. I did appreciate that you could turn off touch LOCK. You do have to be a bit more intentional than with the Kevo (a slight brush of the housing would cause it to lock) but my kids still managed to lock it while it was open on the first day so I just turned it off. As I said, I operate the lock mostly through scenes, so this wasn't really a big deal. One thing I want to highlight though, I am very glad I got the Lock +. If I had to use the Homekit or Level apps to unlock a door when I was standing in front of it, I would have been really annoyed. HomeKey resolves this issue. I may have to take my phone out of my pocket, but you don't have to unlock it or use any apps, just hold it to the lock, and it's fast. Not quite as easy as the Kevo, but perfectly acceptable. I would not have been happy without the HomeKey feature. Overall I'm happy with my purchase. I was surprised a Kevo lock from 2016 did some things better, but overall the Level Lock is a better product (and actually officially supported and works with HomeKit!). It works well with HomeKit, and even though I found the Touch capabilities almost useless, HomeKey takes the place of that nicely. I think the new Connect with WiFi would address some of my issues (activity log in particular), but I don't believe that would have been an essential feature for me. Other than possibly considering the Connect WiFi version, I think I made the right choice here and the Lock + has been able to do everything I needed it to do.

This is the second time I’ve purchased level locks+ and I couldn’t be happier. The locks work great via blue tooth in the app and also via Apple HomeKit which is extremely useful. I like that you can get the same tech features of other smart locks without the bulky appearance. The installation was quick and easy and I like that they provide multiple cap lengths depending on the way your current deadbolt is installed. The lock is a bit pricier compared to other smart home locks, but it’s worth it to me for the appearance and features. You can hear the locks when they open/close which is consistent with other locks, so I opt to turn the sound feature off to help preserve the battery. Also, they created these locks with future tech in mind and are willing to provide a Matter firmware update upon request which will allow you to control the locks from whichever ecosystem you prefer -or multiple if you want (Apple HomeKit, Google Home, etc). They do currently sell the locks with Matter already installed, however, those do not come in a chrome finish which is why I had to buy these and request the update. They responded quickly and followed up to ensure the locks were working before closing the case which I appreciate. All in all, they are great locks. I love them so much that I’ve now purchased 2 additional locks for another property bringing my total to 6! They get an extra bonus because they provide key fobs that allow you to control multiple locks at the same or multiple properties which is a dream for streamlining property management or not wanting to keep up with a ton of keys or codes if you own multiple properties. That is a sweet cherry on top!

The Level lock is a fantastic idea: easy access to your home using just your device is a worthy goal, especially if there is no bulky external hardware to make it evident that this is an electronic lock. Unfortunately it's simply not ready for prime time. I installed my lock several months ago, and it worked ok for a little while. I would get error messages occasionally, and then it started eating batteries way too fast. I contacted customer support and was advised that the problem lay with the alignment of the lock within the door, or with the pressure exerted by the weather stripping between the door and the frame against the lock. Well, there's not much I can do about the holes that are already drilled in my door (though I did chisel them out a little bit to make sure of a smooth entry of the bolt), and there's not much I can do about weather stripping. Weather stripping is essential to doors and windows to keep bugs out and to keep heating and cooling bills down. per Level's customer support: "Weatherstripping typically creates a tight seal when the door is closed, exerting pressure against the door frame. The thick weather stripping on the right side of the image suggests that when the door is closed, it creates additional pressure against the door frame." Well that's the job of weather stripping. It's supposed to make a tight seal, or else it's not effective, is it? My guess is that the sleek design of the Level lock is the source of its problems. It's powered by a tiny (and expensive!!!) 3V battery that is actually inside the hollow bolt of the lock. That battery is way too weak to overcome the natural friction caused by a tight-fitting door seal! Think about it - do you want a tight door seal between the cozy inside of your house and the bugs, pollution, and extreme temperatures of the outside? I'd submit that if your Level lock is working well, then your door is not sealed properly, and you need to invest in some quality weatherstripping. Your power bills will thank you! It's back to a quality manual lock for me. This tech is not mature enough for home use.

UPDATE BOUGHT SAME LOCK AGAIN LAST WEEK (11/4/25). Everything holds true. I am so completely satisfied with this lock. KEY here is you can share both locks to users, one or give access to either on demand. Highly recommend I was not expecting the weight of this lock. It is definitely heavy & quality. From the unboxing to the final installation everything was smooth and well thought out. Programming it was really as simple as downloading the app & then placing your phone next to the lock itself....It runs on Bluetooth so there is never a worry about wifi being out. The lock comes with 2 standard keys was well as 2 very small fobs, The thinnest fobs I have ever seen that are also simple to program..just lay them on the fob to be identified, name then and away you go. This lock is PERFECT for a rental property owner...this product allows you to provide access in multiple ways 1) passes that are limited in time...days and specific time 2) general people can be added - say home cleaners so you can see when they arrive & leave 3) hand the fob to someone..maybe a less tech savvy relative You get an east to follow history of usage on the lock & can see who opened the lock or if it was done manually. For kids, did you lock the door..will never be a question again. You can set the door to lock automatically after 30 seconds to as much as 1 hour Another interesting feature is the Auto Unlock ..once you leave the home boundary of say 200ft, once you return to that "zone/boundary" the door recognizes a key and unlocks the door. saves the fumbling around with groceries or whatever to try to unlock the door. I think this lock is well worth the investment..no one will ever know it a SMART LOCK either
