My watch died after 2 years - but Garmin have offered to replace it for free
As a triathlete this watch did everything I needed and it did it extremely well. Connected to HR sensor and bicycle cadence sensors without issues. Picked up GPS when running/swimming without issues. There's loads of useful functionality and the information you get back is amazing and really helps to track/adjust/improve training. It's a great size which forms a nice balance between a clear display with lots of info without being too big and bulky. A few of my favorite features which make this watch stand out: 1) it's fully waterproof. 2) It wirelessly connects to your comp and uploads all your data - no need to faff about with cables. 3) You can create a cycling route and easily upload it and then follow the on screen 'line'. It doesn't overlay the route on top of maps but it's clear where the turnings are. When you're regularly doing massive bike rides and don't want to keep stopping to check direction this is a great feature. I've even used it in this way for trekking in some remote areas in Europe after uploaded on the GPS waypoints in advance. After just over two years the watch has completely died. It won't turn on at all. I've looked on the internet and this is apparently a common problem. Just google '310xt won't turn on' and you'll see posts on multiple forums complaining about the issue. it's clearly a product fault and Garmin have offered to replace mine free of charge which is excellent customer service and all I could ask for. Hopefully the new one lasts.

An economical Garmin GPS
I bought this to replace a Garmin 305 in which the battery was losing capacity (the cost of replacing the battery through Garmin was almost as much as this device). The 310 is slightly smaller than the 305 but very similar in layout. The GPS location system is much faster than on the 305, which could take a significant time to initialise. This device connects to the computer wirelessly using ANT+, and Garmin Express/Connect software: uploading does not seem as quick as on the 305 using Training Centre - but it is OK. I purchased the device without a HR monitor strap because I already had one: this had worked on the 305 and also a Dakota 20. The battery life on this device seems to be as claimed in the literature: I have not flattened the battery, but there seems to be plenty in reserve after a few hours. Charging is reasonably fast through the supplied USB cable. The Garmin 310 is a great training device, and encourages me to go out just to see how I am progressing. It is a worthwhile, economic first or replacement purchase

Good bargain
I was expecting much more from this, since this is my first GPS running watch. The map isn't as accurate as l expected it to be. I was expecting something that would do a lot better than my GPS recording from MiCoach (iPhone 4). I am also not so sure that the distance it calculates is accurate as buildings in built up areas seem to affect its accuracy badly. On my second use, it froze after l stopped recording (thank God). I was able to restart it after visiting the forums. I was just grateful l hadnt spent 200 odd pounds on a device that was going to prove faulty and problematic so quickly into my use of it. Overall, happy with it as it allows me map and review where l have run and my pace. It is easy to use though. Quite happy about that. Its rating may improve as l run with it more and it gives less problems.

Great all round
For a while I wanted to get a forerunner to help track my runs during training. Others I run with all have Forerunner 305s and recommended to go for this and not spend the extra money on the newer 4x series, but when I looked on Amazon and saw the 310XT I decided to shell out a bit more and get it, mostly because its waterproof and better suited to the Triathlon training I have stated. Apart from being able to use it for open water swim training, I don't have to worry about getting it soaking wet which was the downfall of several other watches I used over the winter when training. It's also little smaller. Although there are a lot of options its reasonably easy to set-up and use. For running and Cycling its great. Easy to switch modes, and configure what you want to see. For swimming the GPS tracks look really poor (in swim mode) but I have kept the watch on my wrist not in my swim hat is recommended, which might effect this. However that's because I want to be able to check my progress from time to time in the water not just after. Also for some reason I can't get it to show distance while I'm swimming which is really annoying. Battery life is good The ant+ connection to the PC seems a little bit of overkill. A USB connection would be much easier. That way I don't need to worry about losing the dongle and don't have to carry that between home and office or wherever, as there is always a USB cable available. I have used this much more than I thought I would, and right now can't go out for a run or a cycle without it on! Overall I'm very pleased with this product.

Very Pleased
This really does everything it says it will do. I had a Polar RS 200 SD for a few years, which is a good watch (and wearable as a normal watch) However the Garmin has a host of extra features and the Garmin Connect site works well. I was amazed as the watched beeped as I was putting my key in the door after my first run, to transfer data to my Mac. Great to have Distance, Pace, Stopwatch & Time of Day all on one screen. Gps functions very well, much more detail than a car type gps gives, very quick to connect, about 20 seconds in the sunny Algarve, Portugal. Only drawback is that it your going to need a day watch as well, as this is a bit big. Have n't tried the swimming function yet.

Good bit of kit
Arrived on time. Great value. Smaller and neater than the 305. You wouldn't notice that you have in on after a few minutes. Great big display which is easy to read on the move. Used a couple of time so far and it locks on to satellites very quickly. Had an existing Garmin heat rate monitor from my old 305. The 310 XT paired with this with very little fuss. Why spend almost 3 times on a newer model. Battery life seems good. Does what it say on the box. Any very basic GPS watch will cost nearly as much, well worth the price

Garmin Forerunner 310xt
I bought this watch for walking and cycling and am really impressed! The watch is simple to use, finds satelites easily and does everything I wanted and loads more! You can set what parameters you want to see on the screen, I like to see how far I've gone, my average speed, how long I've been walking/cycling and the time of day, but you can choose from loads of options. I haven't had any trouble with losing signal and have used the watch in fairly dense woodland and forest. When you start out, you simply switch the watch on and press start. When you finish, you just press stop and then hold the reset button down for your next activity. You can easily change between cycling and walking/running by holding down the mode button and selecting your sport. Then you upload your activities to the garmin site when your ready and you don't have to do it after each activity either. The set up of the watch was really easy and uploading your information is simple too. You just turn on the computer, plug in the USB stick provided, turn on the watch and everything uploads automatically. Then you just click on the link to the garmin website and sign in to review your walks/rides. You can view where you went on a map (just like google maps really), view speed and elevation graphs and look at all the information the watch has collected. I would definitely recommend this watch to anyone training in walking, running, cycling or swimming or anyone who just likes gadgets like me.

Great for running
Delivered when stated in good packaging. Works well and very accurate, still finding new features on it. Syncs with Strava automatically (have to edit description in Strava itself if you want to). Although it is waterproof it does not track swimming accurately when wearing on wrist due to loosing gps signal when it is below water. I understand that wearing it in a swim cap prevents this but thats not my 'cup of tea'

Great
My son and me raise, train and race sled dogs. We find that the Garmin 310xt is an excellent tool for tracking our MPH, time and distance.

Most bang for your buck
I spent about 3-4 months researching a gps watch for my runs. I think I read almost every review from DC Rainmaker's blog before I finally came to a decision, I even commented on some to get his input. I highly advise looking up his page if you're in need of a gps/training watch. The main reason I got this watch over, say the Garmin F10, is that I enjoy cycling and swimming and I also do tri's. The Garmin F10 is solely for running so I figured I'd get the multisport watch since that's what I do. I thought about the Garmin 910XT but I couldn't bring myself to spend $400 on the latest and greatest. Wasn't worth it for me. GPS: The watch picks up your location from satellites very quickly. I normally just stand outside for at most a minute and I'm ready to go. The accuracy, I believe, haven't done the math yet, is pretty good. From what the watch says to what I map online, there's only like 0.1-0.3 mile difference, I normally run anywhere from 5 to 15 miles (training for a marathon at the moment). Watch Functions: Garmin Connect - it's a pretty sweet software provided from Garmin. You can load your watch data onto there and look at your splits, elevation, average pace, etc. What I really like about the software is that I can map courses to load onto my watch and use the Virtual Pacer to keep me honest. I can also create workouts on the software to load to my watch. This is much easier to set up on a computer than the watch. I use the workout function for my intervals and tempo runs. Virtual Pacer - I haven't used this a whole lot yet but it's pretty neat in the fact that you can set a range of how fast you want to run and it shows two little people. one is the pacer and the other is you and you'll either be behind or ahead of the pacer. Great for helping you figure out your pace and how to hold that pace. Display - there are a bunch of differernt displays you can set up so it's all about personal preference. I use 4 data points page (dist, time, lap pace, instance pace) those are about the only things I want to know while I'm running. Autolap - great function. You can set it to 1, 2, 3, or even a custom mile and it will automatically do the split for you. I believe you can even set it to time also (haven't tried it yet) Size - the watch itself is a little big, but I barely notice it while I'm running. The strap is very comfortable and doesn't move around a lot, even when I'm doing sprints. Display is crisp and clear. I could go on and on about the watch but there's just so many functions on it and I haven't been able to use them all yet. Overall, the watch is great and has everything that I need to help me train better for my events.
