TCM-300A Smart Clamp Meter

Love it multi purpose tool

I have several more expensive and very capable meters but none of them have a function to measure inrush current. Inrush is the short term current that is present for only a few milliseconds when an electrical load is first turned on. I bought this meter to be able to compare before and after inrush current when installing an air conditioner "soft start" module. It did the trick. It gives repeatable results. The accuracy seems to be good - tested using a calibrated shunt resistor, incandescent light bulb, and oscilloscope. As expected it is designed to capture the inrush typical of a motor's inductive load - it seems to average the first couple of 60Hz power cycles. It will not display the much higher instantaneous peak current that occurs when an incandescent light bulb is turned on just as the power supply waveform is at its peak. This meter is perfect for it's intended use!

This meter is great, it does exactly what the high end does. Easy to read and understand. Love the fact that has auto. And it will adjust to the correct position.

This is a great value for the price. I love all of the functionality it gives you. I was mainly looking for a clamp meter to check inrush amps on my A/C compressor. This is now my go-to monitor multimeter for projects around the house. The auto select function is surprisingly accurate.

Works great. When measuring current, the clamp must be around a single wire, not a sheathed cable. If you try to measure current on a sheathed cable containing black, white and ground wires, the currents will cancel and the reading will be zero.

Esta pinza amperimétrica/multímetro me ha sorprendido por su relación calidad-precio, puesto que tiene todas las funciones que brinda uno de primera marca, obteniendo unos resultados de medición idénticos comparando con otro que poseo. Sus principales características son: - Medición de voltaje AC/DC, corriente AC/DC, resistencia, diodos, capacitancia, continuidad, etc... - Cuenta con función de rango automático y manual. - Pantalla LCD retroiluminada de 4 dígitos que se ve perfecta desde cualquier ángulo, con dígitos grandes y una gran resolución. - Escala variable - Indicador de nivel de batería (funciona con 3 pilas AAA incluidas) - Linterna led incorporada (aunque es tenue, para una emergencia puede servir) - Los cables que utiliza son con conexión estándar. - Medición de temperatura - Incluye un cable termopar. - Estuche impermeable con cremallera y asa para mantenerlo protegido y fácil de transportar En contra, de momento no le he encontrado nada. Me ha parecido muy completo para el uso que yo suelo darles a estos aparatos tanto a nivel doméstico como industrial. Recomendado 100% puesto que además de las funciones que tiene cualquier multímetro, este posee una pinza para medir corriente y voltaje sin contacto, y el precio es de saldo.

En plus des fonctions basiques que peut fournir un multimètre pour la maison, vérification de tension, d'intensité, continuité, mesure de diode... ce multimètre a la particularité d'avoir une pince ampèremétrique, ce qui est moins courant (!) La pince permet de mesurer l'intensité sans se mettre en série dans le circuit. L'utilisation est tout de même relativement spécifique, d'autant que la mesure est au minimum de 5A. Cela permettra donc de tester uniquement de gros consommateurs. Il y a une fonction automatique "inrush" c'est-à-dire de courant d'appel. En effet lorsqu'un moteur démarre, typiquement il va avoir une consommation très élevée jusqu'à ce qu'il arrive à sa vitesse nominale. Ce courant est si élevé qu'il est généralement impossible de le mesurer avec des sondes, les multimètres sont généralement limités à 10A. Ici, avec la pince qui utilise un principe magnétique on peut monter à 600A. Je suis un peu étonné de l'absence de fusible, d'autant que d'autres multimètres de cette marque en sont équipés. Ils sont peut être de l'autre côté de la carte ? J'en doute, ça n'aurait pas vraiment de sens pour les remplacer. A mon sens, le positionnement de cette pince ampèremétrique est un peu délicate. Pour un particulier, ce modèle est un peu spécifique, pour un professionnel, sans doute insuffisant.

Useful meter, does most everything, 3 second update is a bit annoying, but for the money, spot on.

This is a fairly decent digital clamp multimeter as far as clamp multimeters are concerned with the usual functions and typical ranges etc. It appears to be well-built for the most part and works as expected without issues. The backlit screen is fairly easy to read; however, I'm not a big fan of the soft rubber buttons as they are hard to press (or at least not as easy as they otherwise could be with slightly harder plastic material but I digress). It's fully automatic and auto-ranging although manual selection of specific function is also available (cheaper ones don't usually offer this). Btw, this is the AC-only model (TCM-300A) for the clamp whereas TCM-300D is AC/DC for the clamp. ≡ Physical build The physical build quality appears decent although it's quite typical of most other digital clamp multimeters nowadays. The size is reasonably small (a few others are HUGE which have proven to be rather difficult to use) and it's generally easy to use overall including the clamp (nothing awkward to press/release the clamp etc. The screen is backlit and easy to read without parallax which is nice. Note that this is (including all other similarly spec'ed copycats) very similar to some of the other well known (and more expensive) brands out there and you can see immediately that this a cheaper version of their more expensive counterparts just based on auto ranging features along but they also cost 4-7x more. ≡ Features In terms features, well, it has all the common and typical units but it also lacks a few that some others (slightly more expensive) have although those advances are nice-to-haves rather than required features in my mind; all the usual features (6-8 of the most common ones) are included which I won't go into details. Unlike a few others that I've come across that only display up to one decimal point (i.e. 0.1V resolution) for DC voltage, this actually displays 3 decimal points (and a relief indeed). ≡ Tests I performed a few quick tests both with the clamp and the probes themselves and the results are reasonably accurate in comparison to other known brands. Though, more importantly the results from the clamp match those from the probes for the most part so at least they are consistent. NVC (Non-contact voltage) detection is neat but it's nothing new and not something to write home about at this point in time. Lastly, it doesn't appear to have a HOLD feature, I mean, what? ≡ Value All things considered, this is a fairly decent digital AC clamp multimeter that works as expected for the most part; however, it doesn't have a hold feature and that's just shocking to see (not that important but it's such a common feature). It's extremely well priced at $10 for what it provides and its build quality, features, usability, and performance. This is almost a steal at this price point.
