My husband is dead. I attended his funeral. I watched his casket be lowered six feet into the ground . (Actually, it may have been only five feet, but that still seems like more than enough.) And then we ate an array of finger sandwiches and deviled eggs and miniature beef wellingtons that cost more than my first car. My point is, Grant is gone . And so are all his many, many deep, dark secrets which I never really ever bothered to ask him about. He is never coming back. So why do I still see his face everywhere I go? The Widow's Husband's Secret Lie is an utterly addictive, unputdownable, nail-biting, absolutely gripping psychological thriller novella with a shocking, breathtaking, heartstopping, spine-chilling twist that you won't see coming, will leave you stunned, and will literally have you picking your jaw up off the floor and bringing it to the nearest hospital for major facial reconstructive surgery. Review: A Hilarious and Clever Satirical Masterpiece! - A Hilarious and Clever Satirical Masterpiece! Freida McFadden has truly outdone herself with "The Widow’s Husband’s Secret Lie." This brilliantly written satirical novella had me laughing out loud more times than I can count! It’s not just a gripping read—it’s a witty and clever commentary that showcases McFadden’s unique ability to blend humor with suspense. The storyline is captivating, filled with unexpected twists and turns that kept me turning the pages. But what sets this book apart is the sharp, satirical edge that McFadden brings to the narrative. Her playful self-references, especially the nod to her book “The Boyfriend,” are pure genius and add an extra layer of fun for fans of her work. It’s rare to find a thriller that can make you laugh so much while keeping you on the edge of your seat, but McFadden manages to do just that with ease. The characters are quirky and memorable, each one contributing to the novella's charm and humor. McFadden’s ability to poke fun at herself and the genre, all while delivering a tightly plotted story, is nothing short of brilliant. It’s clear she had a blast writing this, and that joy is infectious as you read. If you’re looking for a book that’s not only suspenseful but also hilariously entertaining, "The Widow’s Husband’s Secret Lie" is an absolute must-read. Freida McFadden has crafted a satirical gem that’s as smart as it is funny, and I couldn’t stop reading—or laughing. Five stars for this delightful, laugh-out-loud thriller! Review: This was a fun, quick read - This was a fun, quick read. There were lots of laugh out loud moments, as well as many times where I had to roll my eyes. Despite its short length, this book has a decent plot and had me questioning things throughout. The main character was a little ridiculous at times, but I think that only added to the humorous aspects of the story. She confused obvious things on more than one occasion which often had me thinking she wasn’t super bright. Did I love this book, no. Was I highly entertained while reading it, yes. If you are looking for a non serious, quick and twisty mystery/thriller read this one.

Delightful and engaging
This was such a fun read! I loved the humor, the twists, and how easy it was to fall into the story. It’s silly in all the best ways. I flew through it in just a day, and had a great time the whole way through. Definitely would recommend.

Painful to read. Good luck
I love Freida McFadden's books, so when I found this one I had to read it. I understand that it's satire, but good grief, this book is flat out stupid and painful to read. About 60% into it, I finally had to realize it was not going to improve and it was a waste of my time. Good luck

Satirical fun quick read! Don’t know what satire is? You won’t get it.
This was the funnest cheekiest most ridiculous mystery story which is exactly what I expected from this piece of satire!! 10/10 I laughed hard, I still wondered what the outcome of the story was and when it happened I loved it and laughed again! This book is a perfect break between other serious Frieda novels!

Wouldn’t recommend
I love Freida McFadden, I have a good collection of her books. The first 3 or 4 I got from Books A Million, but the other 15 or so I got from Amazon. Never had an issue with any of the ones from Amazon until now. Literally every 2 or 3 pages, there is a page falling out. It’s not ripped, it’s straight edged so clearly it was never bound in with the rest of the pages. I tried stapling the first page in, but that’s not something I want to do throughout the whole book.

A Spoiler Free Review! A SATIRE thriller novel!
If you go into this book thinking it’s a serious thriller it’s going to ruin it for you! This is satire! It’s meant to be cliché, funny, and just out there compared to most serious thrillers!! I was a little worried going into this that I wasn’t going to enjoy it since I wasn’t a fan of her other novella The Gift but this was an enjoyable read! I liked all of the references and there are plenty of funny scenes, even though this is cliché I still enjoyed the thriller element that it had. I didn’t mind our main character or her best friend. I would recommend this to those who want a short but funny thriller read that isn’t serious about the mystery in general. (I adore this dedication!)

Fun & quick but lower your expectations 😂
This book was good overall. Quick read, she included a bit of mystery like in her usual books but definitely lots of satire and nonsense😂 For the price, it’s worth reading in my opinion but definitely lower your expectations!!

Cute and Satire
You have to start reading this book knowing it’s completely satire. It was over the top and made me laugh a bit with the black and blue dress and nickelback. Overall I enjoyed it for a quick short read

Brilliant!
Freida is amazing! Not only does she write mind-blowing thrillers, but also she is able to brilliantly burlesque herself, and this book is the genuine proof. Constructed by the most ridiculous plot twists from her previous novels, The Widow's Husband's Secret Lie is amazingly funny and page-turner. Each (short) chapter is finished with cliffhanger, and with every plot twist you can literally hear her ironic laugh. A treat for fans of her works.
