I've always felt bad about using indestructible plastic to put out my garbage, so I was very happy to see this product. So far, it has functioned well and I am pleased. I won't try to overfill the bags (as I might with plastic) until I have more experience is how much weight they can hold.

Why did you pick this product vs others?: I’m on a mission to remove as much single use plastic from my household as possible. The instructions are clear that if these get too wet, they might start dissolving while still in your trashcan. I admit I do put more thought now into how I dispose of things - such as reusing the small plastic bags from the deli counter and Pharmacy to put wet foods in, like coffee grounds, before disposing. perhaps for that reason I have had no issues with the quality of these bags. I’ve tried two other options and these are definitely my preference as they’re just a bit sturdier. I believe the advertisement that said these will dissolve in the landfill and it just makes me feel a little better. I will definitely re-order.

These bags are a little expensive (about 80 cents each vs. 20 cents for Glad Flex, and even less for store brands), but we go through a lot of bags and I like the idea that they will break down. I did not have any issues as others seem to have with the bags breaking down while being used, but I have to empty my 2 trash cans almost every day, so the bag doesn't get to sit very long full of trash. They are definitively more fragile and tear more easily. In summary, I would recommend these if you're able to be somewhat gentle with them. If you frequently have lots of wet or heavy trash, these might not work for you.

Strong, helpful for the environment

I love that these bags are compostable. However, they aren’t as strong as regular plastic bags so you need to be careful. But if you’re careful they’re great to have.

These bags are outstanding! Besides helping the environment….they hold a lot!!

I have moved our family to using compostable zip bags for food and sandwiches, and that has been great! I wanted to try to move our family over to using compostable trash bags, too, so I tried these. I initially thought they were fantastic, though I did notice that they were easily punctured by my thumb or fingers as I tried to pull the full bag out of the trash can, but it could be done if I was gentle and careful. I think the bags are fine, but that they definitely require the whole family to learn how to use them properly. For example, if using these bags, we can no longer stuff the garbage can super full as with plastic bags, because too much force as you pull it out of the can will cause it to tear. So first lesson - put less trash in the bag, and BE CAREFUL as you pull it out of the can. But the more important lesson to learn is about what you put in the trash to begin with. I think these bags will work fine for a family that removes liquids and wet things and composts food stuff separately from regular trash. My family refuses to adopt this lesson, and my husband pulled the plug on this endeavor when he was taking the trash out one day only to have it disintegrate in the middle of the driveway on his way to the bin. This happened because 1. people had placed wet items in the bag days before, and 2. people had over filled the bag due to not adopting the first lesson mentioned above. He was VERY unhappy cleaning up the trash mess on the driveway, especially because he was in the middle of a work-call at the time. SO, in the end, until our family can adopt both lessons explained above, these bags will not be used in our household. 😟 I have hope, though, that I will slowly convert our family over to following the lessons above and THEN I will reintroduce the compostable trash bags.
