The Thermalright ASF-Black AM5 CPU Holder is basically a small aluminum frame made for AMD’s AM5 platform and CPUs like the Ryzen 7 7800X3D, and it’s meant to make mounting your cooler a little better and more controlled. Unlike Intel contact frames that mostly fix bending problems, this one isn’t really fixing a major flaw but more improving how the pressure sits on the CPU and how the thermal paste spreads out. It replaces the stock retention bracket and spreads the mounting force more evenly across the IHS, which in theory helps with temps and consistency, although not everyone sees big changes. Some users say they get maybe 2–5°C lower temperatures, but it really depends on your cooler, how tight you mount it, and overall airflow, so results can be kind of mixed. Where it helps the most is keeping thermal paste from going everywhere, since AM5 CPUs have those cutout edges and paste can spill into the sides pretty easy, and this frame kind of contains it better and makes clean up less annoying. Installation is not super hard but you do have to remove your cooler and the original bracket, so it’s easier if you install it when first building your system instead of after everything is already together. The included screwdriver works but doesn’t feel very high quality, and you need to tighten screws evenly or you might get uneven pressure. The black anodized finish looks nice too, especially in clean builds, even though you won’t see much of it once the cooler is mounted. Overall it’s not something you absolutely need, but for people who care about small details, cleaner paste jobs, and maybe tiny thermal gains, it’s a solid and affordable upgrade.

Works great on my ASUS Tuf B650 Plus WiFi, Ryzen 5 7600x, Thermalright Peerless build. It was super easy to install, and I feel like the cooling fan is more securely mounted. Top notch!

I am an absolute AMATEUR at applying thermal paste. The shape of the AM5 chips scared the flip out of me, so I bought this puppy and slapped it on there. I had to remove the cooler a few months after and the frame helped keep all the paste on top of the chip, I didn't have to worry about it dribbling down the sides. Overall a 10/10 purchase.

I don't know if this frame makes my cpu run better, but I know that it makes the build look better by keeping the paste from spreading over the edges of the cpu. For that alone, it's worth the cost.
