Is it loud when you shake it?

A little, yes. I wouldn't shake it near a sleeping baby but otherwise not terrible...

Does it come with paper pads?

Our game did not, then again it was produced in 1982. All you need is a sheet of paper per player, since you are just writing down words. We ended up laminating 5 scratch pad sheets of paper and use dry erase markers for any game,Iike Boogle, where there are no pads.

Looking for the game rules!!!!

Should be included with package but you can also google

How can you tell the n from a and the w from them

Yes you can tell the difference.
