Violet Red Lava Lamp - The Original Mathmos Telstar Rocket

This is my first Lava Lamp. I was not sure how good it would be but i really liked the idea and having read reviews on various brands available opted for the Mathmos. Some other brands just seem cheep and cheerful and likely to be dangerous or fall apart - probably both reading many of the reviews. Anyway this is a present for my son in Hospital and there will be a lot of effort to get it to him with planes, trains, boats and autombilles so last thing i wanted was for it to break within a few days of getting it there. I therefore played safe and whilst it is more expensive opted for the Telstar given the quality and robustness everyone seems to report. I have had it running around 4 hours now and feel compelled to write a review (i buy loads from Amazon but rarely if ever write reviews). Well what can i say. Wow it's just fantastic. It's excellent quality, a great design and it looks like it will last for years and years. It's just what i wanted and i'm so pleased i found this on Amazon. It works really very well. So much better than i expected it to and it makes me smile every time i turn it on. Give it an hour or so in a warm room and its fabulous. I like the fact i can buy a replacement glass bottle or different colour without needing a whole new lamp. Really pleased its made in Britain as well. As said this one is for my son in Hospital and will help him relax and cheer him up but im sure i will be buying another for my daughter soon. Great service. Ordered on Monday late evening. Despatched following morning. Arrived Thursday to Isle of Man. For mainland delivery it would have been a day quicker. Cant recomend highly enough.

This is just great. Lovely to watch. A cool, relaxing bedside lamp. Also Mathmos were very helpful providing new bulbs free of charge when the two original ones blew quite soon after purchasing.

Been wanting one of these for a while, however, the first bulb blew after circa 6 illuminations, changed the bulb and a different socket and the same again-return ing as too expensive to change the bulb every week.

These are built to last. You can feel the quality when you take them out of the box. They work wonderfully and look great.

The original and clearly the best. Makes copies look like just what they are, cheaper copies. A genuine design classic, well engineered giving not just a long lasting well finished piece of decor, but the movement of the lava and the depth and warmth of the colours are outstanding. Mesmerisingly relaxingly alive. Buy the real deal, you won’t regret it.

A brilliant gift for anyone who enjoys the absurd; this is a traditional lava lamp beloved of old hippies, given an additional twist in this rocket-ship shape. Uses bog standard light bulbs available at any local store; just plug in and let it warm through for a groovy light show. Takes at least 90mins to warm through fully so best to start it early in the evening. Much better viewed in dark / dim conditions -- not great in daylight. Should be stored away from sunlight or the liquid will lose its colour. Also, definitely *not* a toy for kids. It's quite stable on the three feet, but could easily be knocked over by boisterous children or pets. Our one needed a replacement bulb immediately: flickered like crazy when it first reached operating temp and then the bulb bloew. All fine with a new bulb fitted. Nice to buy something like this from a British company!
