Is there such a thing as too much smoke?
Yes, there is, but this thing works great! It's the perfect upgrade to Masterbuilt electric smokers. I just don't understand why they don't build this into their smokers to begin with. Once added, the smoker works easier and better, plus gives the additional benefit of cold smoking capability. In my opinion, this device makes the Masterbuilt electric smoker superior to any other electric smoker. If you own a Masterbuilt electric, you need this. OK, so there "is" such a thing as too much smoke, which is probably why the regular chip tray is so small. Electrics need far less wood than charcoal or wood fire based smokers. If you run a full hopper of chips with this cold smoker accessory you may find your meat ends up too smoky. I used to fill the hopper all the way, but that was too much in my opinion. Now, I usually start with a cup of chips at a time. You can always easily add more if you need to without having to open the smoker, so it's no big deal. If you're doing something like pork butt you probably want a full hopper of chips. If smoking ribs and other foods like jerky, I would go with less. If you do load the chimney full the chips, eventually, the chips will get stuck inside, and you'll have to use a long screwdriver or rod to tamp them down during your cook. If you don't, the hopper will look full, but it isn't and the smoke will drop off. The chips get stuck away from the heat element. Creosote and moisture builds inside the chimney and the chips get glued to the inside of the hopper. Not a big deal, but be prepared to knock them down. Update: I started making jerky and this is the perfect accessory for that. Set your smoker thermostat for 160°F and six hours later you have the best jerky you've ever tasted. The crazy thing about homemade jerky is it is 10 times better than anything you can buy. Once you try making it yourself you'll be hooked, "I guarontee" - Justin Wilson. (Pro tip, always spray your racks with non-stick spray before smoking or making jerky, makes cleanup so much easier.)

Great! Get it! Cold smoke or hot smoke, it does it all!
We LOVE this thing! I cold smoke cheese during the winter and I use it during the rest of the year to add a great amount of smoke to our food. Highly recommended.

A must-have, even for the non-recommended 710 model.
After using the Masterbuilt 710 digital smoker, and reading reviews and advice from other users, I decided I needed this accessory to keep producing smoke while heating the main unit at a low temperature. I didn't read the fine print before I bought this; this unit was not meant for the 710 as it sits too low. So I had to create a shelf for it to sit upon so it could align with the smoke input hole on the 710. (See photos.) Now it works great, and I can smoke at temperatures such as 225 degrees (F) while still producing plenty of smoke. This unit just has an on-off switch. I consider it a must-have accessory for Masterbuilt smokers whether the recommended models or ones such as the 710 that need adapting. I can't guarantee it will work with other models, but with the 710 and a little work, it works great. It seems well-built and I've had no problems so far. It's worth the money. I would rate it a 5 if it adapted more easily to my Masterbuilt smoker.

A must for a Master built Electric Smoker An Amazing Upgrade!
This a must for a serious smoker. I just tried it for the first time tonight because I wanted it to burn in after 3 hours it's still pumping nice white smoke with no signs of slowing down. I have the glass door on my smoker and since I turned this thing on you cannot see the racks. I'm smoking a chuck roast tomorrow, so I do want at least 3 good hours of smoke before I wrap the roast for the final 4 hours. Before I got this it was pull out the chip tray once and hour to refill it. It got to the point that I just didn't like smoking meat anymore. Another thing that really impresses me is the cold smoke feature. You don't need you smoker turned on just turn on the cold smoker and let it go. AWESOME! I finished my burn in smoke and probably had enough wood left for another 2 hours minimum.

Failed First Time Using
I will update this review based on the warranty service provided by Masterbuilt. Upon unboxing I liked everything about this unit, other than the somewhat fiddly attachment method. I seasoned the unit as outlined in the manual prior to the first use. I attached it to our 40" digital Masterbuilt smoker and filled it with wood chips. It produced a great amount of smoke at first. I was using a remote temp instrument to monitor the temperature inside the smoker and noticed it was dropping. I went to check and realized the breaker had tripped. Even though it was a 20amp circuit I assumed that the heating elements in the smoker and the cold smoker came on at the same time and tripped it. I plugged the cold smoker into a different 20amp circuit where it was the only thing plugged into that circuit. It tripped the breaker immediately. I emptied the chips from the cold smoker, cleaned out the inside, and plugged it in again. It still tripped the breaker. I removed the cold smoker so I could use the regular smoking method utilizing the smokers onboard unit. As soon as I removed the cold smoker I noticed an area where the finish was burned off looking. It is in the area where the heating element attaches inside. It looks to me like something caused the unit to overheat and short out. I'm hoping Masterbuilt addresses the warranty issue in a timely and satisfactory manner. I tried using the Masterbuilt online warranty claim form. I kept getting an Oracle error message after wasting a lot of time. I ended up sending an email. I will update this review after we hear back from them.

Smoking made easier
Worked great. Great instructions. Much easier than loading wood every half hour

Lots of smoke!
If you own a newer Masterbuilt electric smoker, you need this thing. Since Masterbuilt dropped their Pro-series smoker, the new ones just aren't designed to deliver much smoke. With this attached, its a smoke making machine. No issues with paint peeling. It could use a more supported mounting option for smokers with legs (which is almost all Masterbuilts), and a cover option would also be nice.

Great addition
It works amazing. I no longer have to keep filling the wood chips every 45mins anymore. Plus having the ability to cold smoke is a massive bonus.

I was really disappointed with this purchase
I was really disappointed with this purchase. After waiting nearly two weeks for it to arrive, I discovered it came with a US plug, so I had to buy an adapter. Even after using the adapter, the item isn't working at all. I wouldn't recommend it based on this experience.

Absolute Frechheit!
