This is a book about those who set out to do something amazing. But also for those of us perhaps who never will - but love to dream of undertaking incredible feats - in the desert, up mountains, down rivers, over or under the sea, and even racing in the heart of the word's biggest cities. It is a book for doers and dreamers.The introduction reminds us that since recorded time, people have been pushing themselves to the limits of human endurance. The authors realized that it would be necessary to set out some parameters for the challenges to be included in this book. This appears to have been successful and has resulted in some unusual and epic feats of endurance.The book is cleverly divided into challenges taking place over different continents and included cross-continental challenges The excellent photography relating to each one, the description of the terrain, and discussion with the athletes who have completed the challenge, makes fascinating reading, together with key facts for each event.This is an inspiring book, lovely to read and browse - and perhaps even to start turning a dream into the journey of a lifetime!

Or as I like to call it "ultra porn".This book was a joy to read as I did from cover to cover. I have done a few of the events in here and have plans to do many more but was amazed by there being even more crazy stuff out there to do.The book is very well written, each challenge has the details of the event well written and researched and accompanied by fantastic photos and a competitors view also.Works really well as a "coffee table" book that you can just dip into from time to time and would be an ideal gift for someone who likes extreme challenges and maybe at a loss as to what to do next. He/She'll find something to get excited about in here.

If you ever want to do something different in your life, then the book gives you those ideas and an insight as to what to expect mentally and physically and for some the opportunity to build up courage to challenge themselves and or friends. I bought this for a friend who was looking for something more challenging than just having run over 170 marathons in his life ( he's 46), it brought a smile to his face!!

This could also have been called 'The Ultimate Bucket List'! If it's hard and you've heard of it, it's definitely going to be listed here. Great book which pulls together all manner of challenges providing ideas cross discipline for adventurous types.

I ordered this for a Christmas present for a friend who has taken part in endurance challenges and he loved the book. And everyone enjoyed dipping into it over the Christmas period. Highly recommended.Arrived very promptly and well packaged.

I now have a few more things for the bucket list. The only problem with books like this is these are the toughest the authors know about, not the worlds toughest. I can see additional volumes coming out as they find out about more events.And one tiny thing. I am fine with having your measurements in metric, but using stone to the side in parentheses rather than pounds? Really?

This is a great coffee table book. Each of the endurance races takes up about 4 pages, making for a great quick read whenever the book catches your eye. The races are very interesting and well described.

The photos in the book are great. I found the font choice and size of the print difficult to read and the book size difficult to read except at a desk or table. I enjoyed the descriptions of the races and was amazed at the difficulty of all of the races.

This book was awesome. I read it in no time. Great descriptions of these epic challenges with beautiful pictures. The only issue I have, now I have way too many endurance goal races!

This was a Christmas present for my IronMan triathlete husband. He loves it and even bought copies for his training buddies.

As a two time Ironman, I was looking to see what else is out there to challenge myself. I don't know that i will ever do any of the races in this book they are certainly interesting to consider and will give you something to think about and discuss with my like minded friends. I can't say I won't do some of the races in this book either.I do like the blurbs from the folks who have done the races. Good to hear of the first hand experiences.

Gave this to my husband for Christmas and he can't put it down. We've done our share of crazy endurance events so this book just makes of dream of even more fun things to try. Great photos too!

This was a gift for a triathlete and he was excited to read it! Pictures were fabulous! And events sure were extreme!

This is a great read. Many adventures and challenges are listed, who knows it might get you off the couch, it certainly has inspired me to push a little harder and go a little further with my mountainbiking. Buy it, you will not regret it.

This book has an excellent photography and good reading. Perfect coffe table book. Useful tool to start your endurance conversation.

I gave this beautiful book as a Christmas gift to a 47 year old male who was happy to receive it as were others in the family. It is detailed in the stories, has inspiring photos and up to date information - a good book for athletes and couch potatoes!
