Beautiful Teacup and Saucer Set
I read all the Amazon reviews for this Royal Albert Old Country Roses teacup and saucer set, and decided to buy the set. This set arrived a couple of days ago, and it is beautiful. Like another Amazon reviewer, Denise, wrote, this, too, is my first Royal Albert teacup and saucer set. I don't own many pieces of fine china teacup and saucers. After the Royal Wedding of William and Kate, I thought to myself, why don't I have my own fine china teacup and saucer set? In the past, I bought teacup and saucer sets for other people, but not for myself. This teacup and saucer set arrives in a nice Royal Doulton box. There were no chips or defects with this china set. The gold trimmings on both the teacup and saucer add extra elegance and beauty. And the old country roses design is pretty. I like that there is a miniature pattern of the old country roses inside the teacup as well. It adds some extra visual dimension to the teacup. Like another Amazon reviewer, M. Knock, wrote, the only downside to this teacup and saucer set is that there is no "Made in England" stamp on the bottom of the teacup or saucer. Both the bottom of the teacup and saucer are imprinted with: "Old Country Roses, Royal Albert, Bone China, 1962 Royal Albert Ltd". I looked on the outside of the Royal Doulton box. It says, "Made in Bangladesh". Nonetheless, I'm very satisfied with this purchase. And this teacup and saucer set is reasonably affordable! Like I said before, it was the Royal Wedding of William and Kate that inspired me to get this teacup and saucer set, but for some reason, this teacup and saucer set looked familiar to me. I remember seeing some celebrity drinking from this exact same teacup and saucer set. I then thought, who is a celebrity who has been photographed a lot with many teacups in the past? I then immediately thought about Lady Gaga and how she always has a teacup with her everywhere she travels because it makes her feel at home and grounded, and reminds her of her past daily tea time with her mother. She also believes in reducing waste, and thus drinking from fine china teacups means that she doesn't have to throw away plastic/styrofoam/disposable cups. Lady Gaga is so infamous for always drinking from a teacup that she has Facebook pages dedicated to her teacup(s), and fans have been known to buy or make special teacups for her when they attend and meet her at her concerts. Even Sir Elton John gave her a vintage tea piece set. I found out that Lady Gaga drank from the Royal Albert/Royal Doulton Old Country Roses teacup and saucer set at the 2010 Grammys. Since I can't link pictures from other websites to this Amazon page, go to Google's search engine and type "Lady Gaga", "2010 Grammys", and "teacup", and then click on any of the OK! Magazine or Zimbio.com links with the topic of Lady Gaga taking teacup to Grammys. And you will see some pictures of her with the Grammy Awards audience seated with this teacup and saucer set in her hands, some including pictures of her talking to singer Celine Dion. The best page is gagafashionland - type "gagafashionland.com/category/teacups/ in the URL and you will see some teacups Lady Gaga owns with the Royal Albert Old Country Roses Teacup and Saucer at the top of the page. Just another amusing fact about this Royal Albert/Royal Doulton teacup and saucer set! Last night, I drank some Numi Moroccan Mint Tea with this teacup and saucer set, and it was actually fun to be drinking from this fine china teacup and saucer set!

Wonderful item
Very popular design that has passed the test of time. If you love tea, this is a wonderful addition. We have a lot more items of this design, and it’s great!

Exactly the same as Original
Awesome. I was replacing my broken cup & had to buy the cup & saucer together. I am glad Amzn sells it. Otherwise my set would be 1 less cup .

I just wonder why the Royal Doulton logo was not used.
I thought the tea set and extra cups and saucers were beautiful. I bought them as a gift to a special friend. At first, when I saw the items were not made in England that they were copies of the Royal Doulton brand I favored many years ago. I had no idea the company had been transferred to Indonesia. I did expect the Royal Doulton logo on each piece but I suppose everything changes. I also remember when Royal Albert was a brand in itself but guess that has all changed too. I am eighty eight years old and have not bought china pieces in many years. I am very pleased with this lovely tea set and it will make a beautiful gift.

Lovely pattern, looks vintage
I like this attractive English teapot and think it fits in well with my vintage teacups. I got the teacups from my grandmother, but unfortunately the matching teapot had been broken. This Royal Albert teapot looks vintage enough that no one would guess it’s from a different time period as my cups. As expected, it works as it should and with the aid of a cozy, keeps the steeped tea piping hot. I have no buyer’s remorse with this teapot.

Really hard to hold
It is lovely! However, it is very hard to hold. The handle is so small, I am unable to get my index finger thru it. I am forced to pinch the handle between my index finger and thumb to drink from the cup. Pretty sure I am going to drop it, soon. That will be the end of that

Beautiful cups and saucers, came impeccably packed. I would not give the fifth star because there is no way you can hook your finger through the cup holder on the side. It is uncomfortable to hold the full laden with tea or cofee by holding on to the outer side of the ear of the cup. Quality is very good, thin bone China, transparent and lets light through, you can check the quality by placing the bone China on a bright screen of your smart phone or better on your IPad. Ideally high quality Bone china Should be light and thin and transparent. Royals Albert comes somewhere in the middle not too high quality but the printing is superior and beautiful. I have appended a definition of Bone China: Bone china is a type of soft-paste porcelain that is composed of bone ash, feldspathic material, and kaolin. It has been defined as ware with a translucent body containing a minimum of 30% of phosphate and has high mechanical strength and chip resistance, and is known for its high levels of whiteness and translucency. Its high strength allows it to be produced in thinner cross-sections than other types of porcelain. Like stoneware it is vitrified, but is translucent due to differing mineral properties.
