I just bought this scale and the directions seem to indicate the display lights up when you tap the center. Mine doesn't do that. Should it?

Hello, This is a step on scale, not tap on. Thank you TCE.com

Does it flash the weight for a few seconds after you get off it?

Yes, the weight does show, from about 10 to12 seconds and then shows OFF and then screen goes blank.
