Designed for Macbook Pros
I have purchased and used the Sotsu Elite 16" for 6 months. This monitor is for a very niche audience: 1) M1-M5 Macbook Pro users who travel and work primarily from their laptop 2) Need a portable monitor comparable to the 16" Liquid Retina XDR display 3) Use a stacked monitor setup Pros: 1) 15W (powered directly through thunderbolt/usb-c) 2) 4k resolution (sharp fonts and details although may need some tweaking using BetterDisplay) 3) Elegantly designed for portability and ease of setup 4) Lightweight (~3lb) 5) The display switch to stacked monitor setup is seamless through the swivel 6) Colors and contrast are well matched with the Liquid Retina XDR display (although unsure for accurate color work) 7) Anti-reflective coating (nice for inconsistent background lighting) Con: 1) Insane MSRP ($789 at the time) 2) The body finish scratches easily 3) 450 nits brightness (vs Macbook Pro 1000 nits brightness, up to 1600 nits peak) 4) 60Hz refresh rate (vs Macbook Pro 120hz ProMotion) 5) No touch capability (so only good as a computer monitor) I am overall happy with the purchase. I've had no issues over the months, and the build quality is great. SOTSU has the best stand solution for portable monitors in the market by far, which deserve consideration.

MAJOR WIN! Tested on MacBook and windows 11 pc and it's top shelf !
Took a chance ans it paid off !!! 1. The gen 2 dark metalic 2k matches my space black 16" macbook pro m3 max perfectly. 2. The screen defaulted to a lower resolution and 60 htz on first plug in. I changed to 120htz and left the lower res as it was super crisp. I use the "better display" app, but I did not have to change any settings. Colors are dam good, just like my macbook without any fiddling! Brightness is good and I noticed no change when plugging in a power cable. Although my mac powers it fine with 1 cable, I tested this as some portable monitors will brighten up with more juice. This one stayed consistant. 3. Auto rotation does not work for me on Mac or PC. I turned it on in the display menue, but no luck. Its fine when you change the rotation in your settings though. 4. The included wetsuit case is an accident waiting to happen..throw it out and buy a 16" laptop sleeve. Recommend using one that zipper across long ways vs across the top as its easiest to get in and out (i tested on 3 different sleaves I own). 5. The stand is very good! It's stable when the base is facing foward. When you flip the stand so its facing backwards and pivot the monitor to its highest position, its still stable unless you tilt the screen back a bit and then its subject to desk bump or heavy typing wobble. Overall, quality! 6. The controll wheel is meh...its firm and when you arentrying ro manipulate it from the front, you will hunt and poke a lot!. The On Screen Menu is OK. The 1 ding is when trying to turn auto rotation on, I can't tell when I have selected on or off. Menu settings that appear to be on, are grey, selecting turns them blue which seems right until you recheck a setting and it's grey again. Fortunately, you will probably set it once and be done. 7. Its definitely super slim and lightweight, but zero cheap feel. You will def have drop anxiety when handling it the first time. 8. The pivot mechanism is great. Snappy, smooth and one of a kind. 9. No cables poking out the side is a god send ! Super happy with this one (I own 3 other 2k glossy qled monitors and this is brighter consistent. Only complaint is the dang price. This would be just right at $450. $599 made me scratch my head for a week before I pulled the trigger. Overall, its a peice if tech that will turn heads and make you feel good about the extra coin you dropped.

How Did Apple Not Come Up With This?
Seriously, how did Apple not build this? The 4K resolution matches my MacBook Pro perfectly, the design is clean and intentional, and it just works. Yes, it’s a bit heavy for a portable monitor, but if you’re going to carry the extra weight, this is the one worth carrying. Skip the plastic bezel sidekick screens. This one earns its place in your bag. My only gripe is the oversized branding on the stand, but it’s a minor annoyance on an otherwise premium product. I use it as a dual screen on my standing desk at home with calendar and messages always up and it travels with me on the road when I’m away from my home office. Pure portability without compromising on quality.

High-Quality Portable Monitor with Minor Drawbacks
I was very impressed by the overall build quality of this portable monitor—it feels sturdy and durable, and the screen clarity is excellent. It’s definitely a premium product, and you can tell just by handling it. One issue I encountered was with the default resolution: the text appeared way too small, making it uncomfortable to work for extended periods. Adjusting the resolution helped with readability, but unfortunately, that led to a noticeable drop in image quality. I eventually found a third-party app that offered more resolution options, and after some tweaking, I found the right one for my needs. It would be great if the manufacturer could offer a built-in way to set custom resolutions to make this process easier. The included protective case was a bit of a letdown. For the price of the monitor, I expected a higher-quality case. I’ll probably end up buying a more durable one separately to ensure better protection during travel. Also worth noting: the monitor only comes with a USB-C cable. It would be nice if it included a mini HDMI cable or a charging block to improve the experience. In conclusion, while the price is on the higher side, the excellent material quality and performance make it one of the best portable monitors I’ve tried. Just a few minor improvements could make it even better. Rating: 4.5/5

Good high quality product
Bought it for $600, one of the most expensive portable monitors. In terms of quality-price ratio it's not great, I think $450-500 would make more sense. Pros: - 120hz, 2560x1600. 4K would be an overkill for 16" for me - Metal feels great and sturdy - Magnets are strong and reliable - High adjustability for height and tilt angle thanks to the stand and 180° rotation - The ports are located in the stand, really nice that this way no cables are sticking out from the side - Fits in my backpack with the MBP 14" - Can detouch it from the stand in a second and use it on a bed - The monitor weights 930g/2.05lbs + stand 435g/0,96lbs Cons: - Poor black colors because of IPS, that's the main issue I have. I would have paid $200 more if there was an OLED option. Btw there is no information in the specs that it's IPS. - Anti-reflective coating is a bit better on the MPB than on this monitor. - The stand is not THAT stable, it would still wobble for a few sec after touching it or if your table is not sturdy enough. I think a tripod stand would be better in such cases. - No speakers. It's not a problem for me since I use it with a laptop only, but can be an issue for those who buy it for pc/console. - The protective case is not high quality, I would expect better, but good enough to use as a mousepad. Recommendations: - If you use it with mac, you MUST download BetterDisplay app and use the HiDPI feature (available in free version) to fix the resolution issue. Otherwise by default the picture would be too big/small/blurry.

The BEST 16" monitor money can buy (2025), The King
I have 6 different portable monitors. This is the BEST in all categories: Quality: this is solid metal, solid glass, magnets Picture Quality: glass clear picture (2.4k 120hz 400nits) Ports: ports are easy to access, clever that they are in stand Design: the flip action is best in class, amazing! the built in stand amazing, the base for stand is magnet onto back Height: the stand and base can make this so tall that it will be vertical over my macbook pro Cost: the most expensive on the market, and you get the best quality of any competitor, trust me I know This is slim, light, gorgeous display to look at with the bezel being equal on all sides. When it comes to design, function, and quality this is the king of portal monitors. I know this is expensive but I'm in love and I might purchase another so I can cuddle it in bed at night.

Perfect portable monitor
If you’re using a Mac, the Better Display app is must have with this monitor. It only has a 2K resolution and macOS defaults to just two retina resolutions – very small details and very large ones. Better Display has High DPI feature and you make have better resolution without blurry or crispy picture. Also the control buttons on the back are also very difficult to use and you will do many mistakes trying to adjust brightness. Everything else is exceptional: image quality, 120 Hrz, portability and assembly quality.

Terrible Image quality
I like premium stuff. So when this popped up, I was excited as the all-in-one stand and monitor design was very appealing. With that being said, the build quality is amazing. It feels more like my $799 Espresso display which is what I was hoping for. However, after getting set up and admiring the finish that matched my MacBook perfectly, I turned it on. At first the colors were a bit off, but no biggie I can calibrate that a bit. However, as soon as I opened a DAW and started working I noticed that the resolution was wrong. Upon entering Settings on my Mac, there was no resolution native for the MacBook to play nicely with that didn't distort the images or text in a weird way. The overall screen quality is similar to my $60 HKK portable monitors sadly, and the stand isn't worth paying the premium price for. It's a shame, as they advertise it having an LG screen, but bo matter which machine I tried it on the result was the same. Save your money a bit more and get an Espresso if you want the Mac feel, or just get a cheap one with better native resolution if you only want the extra real estate.

The Best Portable Display Money Can Buy
I have used half a dozen portable displays. This is the priciest and also head and shoulders above most of what’s out there. What make up for its mediocre specs (2560x1600, 60Hz, 350nits) are two things: outstanding design and effortless compatibility. The display looks and feels just like an iPad with a built-in kick stand. It offers more positioning options than I could reasonably expect or imagine. The base conveniently snaps onto the back of the display magnetically. The whole thing fits snugly into its protective sleeve. The included cable is thoughtfully L-shaped on one end. A single large wheel button offers easy access to menu and settings. Ports are smartly placed on the edges of the kick stand. One can’t help wondering if Apple played a hand in the overall design. Speaking of Apple, Macs notoriously don’t play well with non-Apple displays. This is the only portable display I’ve tried that gets correctly recognized by both my Macs and my iPad Pro for its resolution, ratio, and HDR capability without me having to do any fiddling. It works effortlessly with PCs as well. It’s a glossy finish, making image vibrant and colors rich. There is some reflection as expected, though not as bad as some other glossy portable displays I have. Cons, very few and not deal breakers: - The magnets connecting the base and the display aren’t very strong. The base can fall off if you hold the display screen side up without supporting the base. - The seams on the protective case came loose at the opening after two days. I’d prefer for it to be slightly looser and with zippers. - For the price, you’re mostly paying for the design (aesthetics and usability). Similarly priced ViewSonic 15.6” OLED 4K portable display is a strong contender in terms of excellent specs and portability. I’m still torn between the two, in fact.

4K 120Hz would be ideal…
Nice build quality. Decent LED panel that is nice and sharp at 4K resolution however, for me personally when using next to the 13” M4 iPad Pro the 60Hz refresh rate is noticeably lacking when scrolling. I’m sure Sotsu will release a 4K 120Hz in the near future. In the meantime, I returned the 4K Elite and purchased the 2.5K Gen 2 Pro instead. That being said, love what Sotsu are doing. Update: Received the 16” Pro Gen 2 and it pairs perfectly with the 13” M4 iPad Pro. 120Hz is the same as the iPad’s refresh rate so scrolling does not strobe. I was able to calibrate the colour to match very closely (see attached picture for settings). 2.5K resolution produces a sharp enough screen. Very happy with the Pro Gen 2.
