After doing some research, I decided to purchase the Kayalite kayak light. It produces a nice bright white light that can be seen from a good distance, which is important if you intend to be out on the water at night / dawn / dusk where other boats are present. I particularly like the ease of attaching or removing the light. I installed the stainless steel eyebolt on one of my kayaks to attach the light but on my other kayak I was able to attach the light on an existing piece of hardware. Because it uses a bungee cord as the fastening mechanism, it also gives on direct impact such as getting hit by a paddle but will spring back into its original position. A good accessory.

After trying many other options for my canoe, this is the one that works best. Have had it for a couple of months now, and am still on the first set of batteries -- the others I tried all had to be replaced weekly (I used it for two hours a day, most days). Edit 6/24/21: After several months the AA batteries finally gave out, so I went to replace them, and learned two things. 1. Rechargeable batteries are just slightly wider in diameter than regular batteries, and 2. rechargeable batteries will not fit in this device, and if you try to put them in, they jam and it's very hard to get them out again. I have deducted one star for not being usable with rechargeable batteries.

This was a perfect light to use on my O'Day 222 at night. I could not believe the visability when hoisted up the mast using the main halyard. It is of sturdy construction and at 50,000 of use I am sure it will perform flawlessly.
