A girl who longs for her own horse is given the chance to care for a troubled, damaged horse, who needs her as much as she needs him. Fourteen-year-old Jane Ryan has always dreamed of having a horse of her own--but so long as she gets to ride her favorite school horse, Beau, at Sunny Acres farm, she's content. And this is the summer she means to try out for the advanced riding class. But just as camp begins, Jane receives heartbreaking news about Beau. She loses, not just her favorite horse, but also her chance to ride in the end-of-summer competition. When her trainer asks for her help with an out-of-control chestnut warmblood, Lancelot, a newcomer to the barn, she has no choice but to say yes. There's another new addition to the farm: Ben Reyes, the grandson of the barn's manager. As Jane struggles to go on without Beau, and to make Lancelot the great horse she believes him to be, her feelings for Ben, her relationships with the privileged group of girls she rides with, and her painful, joyous road to self-discovery all lead to a heart-pounding conclusion that is truly a new beginning. Only Jane's faith in Lancelot, and her own rediscovered skill and strength, can see her through the hard journey toward a horse of her own. Terrible storyline. Awful unrealistic characters. Don't waste your money.
I love horses and I love to read horse stories. I wanted to like this, I really did. However, it mostly just irritated and confused me. Right from the start there's a whole bunch of characters introduced and it was difficult to keep track of who was who, and who was friend or foe. Their riding instructor is incredibly unrealistic, walking around with a riding crop glued to her hand and regularly smacking it against her boot. (including in the presence of horses) They have an unpredictable horse, but decide to lay a saddle pad on the floor if his stable, for a cat to sleep on. I guess they don't care if it gets trampled. At one point a horse gets colic, and they put down a thick bed for him, then actually incourage him to lie down and roll. One of the characters remarks that rolling won't do him any harm! This part REALLY annoyed me and to be honest, I ended up in tears as it hit very close to home. I lost my horse to colic, after he rolled and twisted his gut. (It was in the middle of the night, so I wasn't there to stop him from rolling) Anyone who knows about horses, knows you shouldn't let a colicing horse roll! I did read it right to the end, but I had to force myself. *Spoiler warning* The ending was terrible too, as the main character was gifted a mystery horse. The 'happy ending' could be short lived, if the horse turned out to be stolen and had to be given back to it's real owners. I usually keep my horse story books and enjoy to re-read them.. but not this one. It went straight in the bin. If you want a good horse story, check out what Jane Ayres has to offer.

A HORSE BOOK CLASSIC IN THE MAKING
This is a classic in the making, I loved this book from start to finish. A great story line which the author followed. ***spoiler Alert*** I loved how the main character in this novel Jane, really was a horse lover like so many of us, loved the "ugly" horse, the crazy horse, and all the horses between. She was talented but not smug, and though she didn't have her own horse she worked so hard to be able to continue what she loved. I bet most of us horse girls know a kid or two like that and some of us were girls like that. Able to relate to characters and her discriptions really got you in the book. You took each fence with jane and wanted to smack emily a lot! My god daughter read it in a single night and has since had a lot of her friends want to borrow it or go out and get there own copy. This book rates right up there with National Velvet, Black Beauty, and my friend flicka! If you have a horse lover in your life, this is a book to give them. Great story of friendship, devotion, loyalty, and honestly, and strength. Jane is a real role model for kids, and i can't wait to try more of this authors books.

A delightful read
I love this book and always have . I bought it when I was younger and read it many times. I was thrilled to see it in e-book form and had to have it. It's well-written and flows evenly. I love the relationships between the people and the horses.. and the teens with each other. Though some didn't get along, there was no violence. Knowing about horses and horse competitions, I enjoyed the reality and correct knowledge and terminology in that field. And of course, I love the happy ending for our young heroin.

AMAZING BOOK ๐ด๐ด๐
I loved this book! It was so good! A combination of a horse book and a spy book towards the end.
