Waste of Money
I have successfully used Ssscat sensors for years, but this “2nd generation” product is garbage. The sensor doesn’t work at all. My cat walked back and forth in front of the unit repeatedly, without anything happening at all! I am so disappointed in this purchase! It SHOULD be super easy to use, but I only managed to set it off a handful of times by waving my hand right in front of it. I thought it was a battery issue, but replacing the batteries didn’t make a difference. The original product that was just a battery operated sensor that attached to the top of the spray can, worked perfectly for my cats. After almost two decades of use, most of my original ones have stopped working properly. I really wish I could get the same ones I had before. Other companies sell similar products, but they have to be charged regularly. I prefer the battery operated ones. I worked in a vet clinic for 27 years, and recommended the original product many times, with successful results. At this point, I would never recommend THIS product. The company needs to reevaluate their product, and fix this issue that so many are having. When it costs this much and can’t be returned, it’s not worth even trying it. If you’re on the fence about trying the 2nd generation Pet Safe Ssscat sensor, DO NOT BUY it. Buy one of the products that sits on top of the spray can. You will be much happier!

Worked to discourage cat from jumping on the counter
This worked well to discourage my cat from jumping on the kitchen counter. When first got this and set it up, my cat tried jumping on the counter a couple times to check it out, but quickly jumped off when she got hit with the puff of air. The air spray is odorless, but it is strong and loud. She hasn't jumped on the counter in weeks, so now I mostly scare mysef with it when I forget to turn it off when I need to be at the counter. The censor is pretty sensitive and the radius is wider than expected, so it goes off when I walk by if I dont give it a wide berth. I do turn it off when I'm in the kitchen, but the cat is now uninterested in the counter in general, so its not a problem. This probably wont be the case for every cat, but it worked for me. Assembly was easy. When I first got it, I put in old batteries and had the problem of it going off randomly, but I put in brand new batteries, and haven't had the problem since. I leave it on overnight, and it does not go off at all anymore since the cat stays away.

Returning it is impossible!! DO NOT WASTE YOUR MONEY ON THIS!!
We had one of these years ago and it worked flawlessly. Ordered this newer style one recently to help one of our cats from peeing in an area it shouldn't pee in. This thing just won't work. I've replaced the batteries twice, thinking it may be the batteries but that's not the case. No matter what setting I try, it doesn't work as it claims. It'll go off when no one is around it, yet our cat can walk right up to it, sniff it, and it won't even detect the motion and alert the cat. This thing is garbage as listed in other reviews. Amazon directs you to the manufacturer to return it or contact the company's support department, but that is a joke. This item isn't even listed on the company's website to get support for and you can't advance with your support request until you select the item you're needing support with. What a waste of money. I wish we wouldn't have gotten rid of our old one from years ago. It worked incredibly well.. this newer model is just junk. Another dissatisfied customer that's out $50+ bucks because I can't return it. Such a scam.. I'm surprised Amazon deflects these complaints and return requests onto the manufacturer with no help from them at all. All I did was waste time going down a rabbit hole on the manufacturer's website that does not help at all because this item is not even listed. So now I'm not only out the money, but I'm really pissed off. Don't waste your money on this folks!

Honestly unreliable
I bought this device a couple of weeks ago thinking that this would solve our problems. We adopted a cat a few months back and we currently live in an apartment building. We're planning on moving into a house, and this cat likes to bolt out our apartment door when it opens. We were hoping that this device would help teach her to not do that now that we're moving to a home! Unfortunately, this wasn't up to par. When I first got it, it worked wonders within the first few days. I was detecting our cat and she was starting to learn her boundaries. However, it's now Week 3 of owning this device, and it barely detects her now. We've already had to buy a new can of spray because it detects us humans by the door more often than the cat! I'm really disappointed, especially for the price. We will probably just let this current can run dry. This was one of the few options I saw that didn't contain a scent or anything in the spray I'd be concerned with. We're now planning on purchasing a tracking collar just in case she gets out.

Does the job, sensor is a little too sensitive.
Effective but super sensitive. I can’t decide between 4 or 5 stars, but in the end, this thing works really well for keeping my cat away from my plants. We had issues with him digging in the dirt, chewing on the leaves, and once killed a plant from peeing in the dirt… Something had to be done, so I thought I would try this, and it works amazingly. HOWEVER, the motion sensor is super sensitive. They show pictures of this on a counter, but just walking by the thing will set it off. I wish it was a little less sensitive. I solved this problem by pointing the sensor towards my plants so that the cat will need to walk between the sprayer and the plant to set it off. This works great, and checking around online, the spray does not harm the plants, and the couple of times it has gone off, I’d agree the plants seem just fine. Just make sure to turn it off with the button if you plan to do anything around your plants, like pruning or watering. Unfortunately, the can only has so many sprays until you need to buy a new one, so keep that in mind when working on them. I also found that the motor that pushes down the sprayer is pretty loud; the sound alone scares my cat, so if this can runs out, I may just leave it and see if the sound alone will deter him. So far, he has only found out the hard way once and has seemed to learn his lesson quickly, so the only reason I see needing to replace the can is when my daughter keeps setting it off when she goes by the plant.

Decent function and it helps train cats
Our cat is a serious plant eater, eating the heck out of the indoor kitchen herbs and pepper plants! This has solved that. It scares the poo out of the cat and so there is no plant eater returning any time soon. Every now and then the cat tests it again but overall, it has been an excellent deterrent and now our indoor plants can actually grow! We put one under the Christmas tree to keep her from climbing up the tree. Sometimes it doesn't go off, usually it does. Since ordering these we have not lost one leaf to the plant bandit. And kitty stays out of the Christmas tree and out of under it. A couple notes for consideration: To water your plans you can turn it carefully away if it's facing a wall but don't forget to carefully turn it back. If moved slowly like that, facing a wall, it doesn't typically spray. That can be easier than turning it off and then back on. Not a big deal either, you just need to check the lights to make sure it is at the right setting, off or on. The other warning is toddlers and energetic kids. You need to warn them about it if it's in an area they might go. It could scare them, but once you tell them about it, it could become a game so you might have to move the sprayer from the area until the kid is not in the area. This is likely an issue more with guests as a kid living in your own home understands the rules and the novelty would likely not continue, anyway. It sometimes sprays when you might not want it to because a curtain moves in a breeze (if you are trying to keep a cat out of the window) or because you forget and get in the way. But that is circumstantial and not a malfunction. Sometimes it won't go off if a cat is verrrrry slow and sneaky. Usually, it will. There is no doubt that this thing does work, and it is worth getting. One can will probably be enough to train a cat and to cover all the oopses that set it off.

Can't Return, Probably Unsafe, Worked One Day
I didn't read ALL of the reviews because I was just so desperate to finally have a fix to my issues. Now $60 went down the drain and I CANT get it back. For MONTHS I have been dealing with my two one year old males pulling, scratching, crying and causing chaos while I am trying to sleep. I lose sleep on work days, wake up cranky and tired, and it repeats every night. I tried everything: putting things to block them from scratching my door, wore my AirPods to block out their constant meowing, sprayed them with water numerous times just for them to come back and start over again. I couldn't take it. I didn't want to resort to this product, but I also couldn't let this go on. So I caved and purchased it. Upon getting the product, it seemed fine, but one thing sort of stood out to me: the warning labels on the can. It claims to be "pet safe", yet it warns YOU that if you inhale it and feel unwell to get medical care, and if skin or eye contact is made: to wash your eyed with water for upwards of 15-20 minutes! What is in this can that makes it so dangerous?! And I would want to use this on my pet?! That threw me off and made me unsure about even starting it up, but I did and used it for one night. When I first started the the device up, it sprayed ME with the can contents. It felt oddly cold, and was VERY loud, and the contents misted, like it was some sort of canned liquid and not air. Almost like dry ice. I used it only ONE night with rechargeable AAA batteries. Went to use it again the next night, won't work. All it does is turn on, then show a solid red light. I assumed maybe - just maybe - the batteries were somehow bad after just charging them the other night. So I charged them up again and reinstalled them. Nope. Same thing. Solid red light. I refuse to believe it is the fact the batteries are rechargeable since the device WORKED the night before. And unbeknownst to me: I CANNOT RETURN THIS ITEM! I did not know when purchasing it that it cannot be returned (which is where I wish I read more of the reviews). And I don't even think contacting support will allow me to find a work around. I don't think I would even want to speak with SSSCat's customer service to get a replacement, since the warning labels on the can itself are already off putting enough. At least I am in the same boat with many others... But I had to learn the hard way, and lose money doing so. Do not buy this product, not mainly because of its win-or-lose functionality, but the mysterious contents you are spraying on your pet or in the air. Now, I'm stuck with living with my cats bothering me at night nonstop, and a funky, faulty machine that cost near $70.

Motion sensor was unreliable
We bought 2 of these. They worked well for the first week, but then started to have issues. The first started failing after about 30 sprays and the second after about 50. It seemed to be an issue with the motion detector sensitivity as - I could set them off as a human but having our cats walk within a foot of each of them would not set them off. We even had a setup for the table with 2 units both covering the small table from both sides and watched one of our kitties parade about as if they weren't there (and they never went off).
