A ghost story, inside a ghost story
Most schools in Japan have a scary story or two. 'Another' is what happens when those stories become real. It's taken the general formula of, here's the curse, what are the main characters going to do, and flipped it. It's a mystery genre of it a own. Instead of a whodoneit, we have a whatsdoneit (so too speak). The book is written like a timeline and the words flow smoothly from sentence to sentence, and leaves nothing to the imagination. It's truly gruesome when it needs to be and has that air of mystery which so few writers can hold onto for a whole book. A thrilling horror mystery from start to finish. And while there is still another book (forgive the pun) it leaves the end at a satisfying conclusion

Slow to pick up but fascinating.
I enjoy Japanese crime fiction and even an occasional horror because they seem to be very different to Western ones and much less cliche. This story definitely deserves your attention if you like mystery combined with horror elements. It is not very graphic (which I approve). Instead, it relies on a strange set of characters and events that stem from some curse that effects memories, records and even family histories of all people involved and centers around a single person who is not really a person and should not be present at all. But if this somebody is present, many people will die. The problem is you can't tell who the non-person is. Even the person himself/herself. The book is narrated by a 15 - year schoolboy who gets transferred into his mother's birth town because his father has to go away on a foreign trip for a year. In his new school he encounters a very strange tradition - one of the students must be completely ignored at all cost. Puzzled, the boy begins to question what is real and what is imaginary about all his classmates, teachers and even himself. He will finally figure it out but at a price. The book can be annoyingly slow, when dialogues are interrupted, thoughts repeat themselves and run in circles and events go at a snails' speed. By I forgave all that because the story is so unusual and made me want to learn how it will all end. Great book.

Horrifying
Though the translation may not be the best, the story more than makes up for it. It a gripping thrill-ride of horror that left me turning the pages until the very last word. On a side note, I have also seem the anime adaptation of this book, and I must admit I think it is superior.

this series is by far one of my favorite light novels i have ever read
this series is by far one of my favorite light novels i have ever read. i can even say its top of my list of ever book i have ever read. it is a kinda murder mystery school curse kinda book and it follows a young guy who is in a school where bad things happen. that is all i am going to say because i do not want to ruin it. but it is amazing. the story telling is great. and the characters are wonderful. this is the 1st book in a series of 2 that the author has published here and i enjoyed it great. now i am reviewing the hardcover light novel version so this wont apply to the paper back manga version of this. the dust cover is a nice touch i always enjoy book and movies that have them. the art on it is wonderful and isnt to tall or long for the book. i have had a book or two where the dust cover was a tad to big and it would bend when set down. the book itself is pretty big but it is the full story instead of a 2 part book so that would explain why but even though its a big book it isnt that hard to hold and read. the chapters are set up into little parts so if you need to stop half way through the chapter its easy to keep your spot by reading to the next point. all in all i am glad i bought the book and read it. its one i would read over and over again. would recommend this book, second book and the manga version.

Ottimo romanzo
