The closest yet to real-life football
After buying FIFA on release day, I wanted to give it a week to write my review. After through playing of every game-mode, this is the conclusion I have come to. Gameplay: The controversial First-Touch is a great addition to the game, if sometimes over-powered with lower league teams. It really gives a realistic feel of playing football, as sprinting onto the ball with Theo Walcott will make it immensely difficult to take the ball easily. On the other hand, holding LT gives the FIFA Street-esque dribbling, where your player will make small, controlled touches to take on a defender at close quarters. The Impact Engine has been toned down well, although the Push/Pull function ends with a booking 9.5 times out of 10. Passing build-up play works much better this year, giving a more realistic football experience. Gamemodes: Ultimate Team has lost the single game mode, which is a shame but the seasons is a good idea (albeit with awful matchmaking). Head to Head is the same as it was in 12, only with the handy feature of the game saving squads when you pick your team. Career is vastly improved (even with the dodgy transfers - see Mascherano to United). I've yet to try International Management, but I can't wait to give it a go! Pro Clubs is improved, and is still my favourite gamemode. The seasons feature gives a much more long-lasting and satisfying experience, although only having cup windows is a bit annoying. Skill Games are a great addition, even though they aren't too difficult to complete. The leaderboard feature gives it longevity, and most are fun enough to come back to to hone your skills. Other Features: The EASFC catalogue is a great idea, especially with the 10,000 free credits. The only downside is that if the EASFC servers go down as they did today, your unlocked celebrations and boosts don't work. Matchday is a good idea, although I don't have much interest in playing Kick-Off matches after the first day. In other news, the servers are still poor and grass is green. Overall: The biggest fault of this game is EA, with the poor servers and need to fiddle. The game itself is fantastic though, and has room to improve. Bring on FIFA 14!

AMAZON DELIVERY FAIL REDEEMED!
i paid extra cash for this game to be delivered on the day of the release and amazon have failed. this is the last mistake amazon will make for me. if you have experienced the same problem i suggest you do as i have- DEMAND THE POSTAGE BE REFUNDED. IF THEY FAIL TO DO THIS DELETE YOUR ACCOUNT. there is nothing on amazon that cannot be bought anywhere else. the game itself plays quite well (my brother got his from tescos for £39 at midnight), it feels very fluid and for the 1st time in like 3 years EA have actually overhauled the pro club system, lets just hope they don't nerf (make weaker)the pro teams like they did last year. EA can be pretty stupid sometimes. EDIT: since i wrote this review AMAZON have refunded the money that i paid for a release day delivery. since then i have had time to read the comments left and i acknowledge that the rant above is not a review. FIFA13 is quite the football game that now thanks to server hosting instead of console hosting has eliminated modding and boosting! this is a step that should have been taken along time ago but it's here and the playing field is level for all online modes. the career mode now is far more detailed and offers many more options for a pro career. the manger mode also offers more options than previous versions. the game handles quite differently from 12, the first touch system is almost 50/50 depending on your positioning. Tactical defending is still present but is no longer as unforgiving as it was. the impact engine still occasionally causes players to trip over each other like some sort of slapstick comedy but it's something that FIFA had needed for a long time before 12. the pro club mode is the reason i play FIFA, it is great to play as part of a team and the pro clubs has almost had the overhaul it needed. the first point is that the old league system is gone and along with it the stupid points system (63pts for a win? -22 for a loss?). replacing it is an individual league system that requires your club to get a certain amount of points to avoid relegation, gain promotion and win a league title. the cup competitions have changed also, now the one cup has been replaced by four different cups unlocked as your progress up the league ladder. there are 10 leagues to progress through which are seperated into 4 tiers, non league, bronze, silver and gold leagues. this new system is fantastic and is what the pro club system needed but it is still the lack of a kit editor that is probably it's only flaw. overall if you like football you will probably have bought this game regardless of this review but if you haven't it is a wise investment and you will get you moneys worth.

Best of its kind.
If you like Fifa then no doubt you will love this. If you like Pro Evo then no doubt you will never go back to it. Improved in ways that you don't even think about. Ultimate team could be sold on it's own. The standard of it is brilliant. It's own season mode, on and offline really adds depth. Packs have got better and playing your mates has got easier. You can get so immersed in this that you forget about life. The other game modes briliant as well. The seasons online was already great before but it seems they have tweaked the difference in divisions enough now for it to feel like you are the underdog when you have been promoted. Season mode better than ever. Transfers are really top quality now, some players really are hard to buy. Gameplay tweaked to be great now. Morale is a huge addition. When you go one nil down you can feel your players get sluggish and lose that edge to their game. Vice-versa when you are winning. Crossing has been sorted out now, you can actually get on the end of them from the wings. Shooting is very saucy, can score some wonder goals when you get into. Too much to cover to be honest Just buy it, if you read up to here why are you hesitating so long? Sort it out and add to basket.

GOOD GAME, BUT...
The game itself is fantastic the concept of the different features such as ultimate team and pro clubs is fantastic, I consider myself to be a serious gamer in the likes of call of duty and games like it but I have never played football games such as FIFA. After being told and told and told to get this game I finally decided to get it, I can honestly say that it was a good idea as I love ultimate team and the other features of this game, the game hasn't left my Xbox for over a week now. However, I have found on call of duty I get very angry which is evident when you look at how many controllers I have broken this year and can safely say that FIFA 13 has never made me so angry in my life. I don't know why it makes me like this as I know I am bad at the game to start with, it is probably because I am used to winning on call of duty and to suddenly keep losing is very annoying. So to conclude, the game is very good but do not get it is you get very angry with games very easily because you will...

same games....only more costly and less in the box?
This game is not so easy to use, if you've never bought Fifa or haven't bought it for a few years you will struggle to navigate and understand the games confusing menus/sub menus. I own fifa11 and I still get annoyed with it, having to read loads of on screen explanations of what part of the game you've entered and having to do that without a manual to help you through it gets annoying, and every game mode seems to require far too long to 'set up' and plow through all the text to learn, you just want to get on with it. Couple of times I've started ultimate teams and spent so long trying to work it all out, swapping 'cards' or whatever I've got bored and switched it off!! Career mode is a bit more intuitive and enjoyable but all the others, my god just too dull and too much hard work for me. The football itself is great, the game is great and its better than Fifa 11 but there's some things I'm pretty disgusted with after laying out £39 for this game. Unforgivably... No manual They want 2000 Microsoft points for a 'season ticket',a twelve month subscription that gives access to some DLC packs and gives 20% off future PDLC. Right! so I pay for the privilege of downloading stuff that should have been included in the release I've just paid £39 for and I get 20% off your future OVERPRICED dlc?? Am I the only one feeling a bit unappreciated by these huge software giants? Haha Seems theres a worrying trend in games I'm not liking. DLC used to be something you got as a bonus or free modification to liven up a tired old game but now all games seem to happily charge a fortune for what amounts to little more than a shortcut to the parts of a game you already paid for. Like unlocking weapons or whatever in Battlefield 3. Well it seems EA are getting in on this trend with their ultimate teams idea. You can either spend months building a team that's useful OR pay lots of extra money to shorten the long `grind` I'm as such inclined to rate this game 1 star. Personally I felt ripped off by this game even though I liked the actual football game itself. Just seems to me I'm only setting myself up for more expense by playing it.

FIFA 13- THE BEST
Fifa 13 did not dissapoint and big improvements have been made. The graphics are getting better and better. Gameplay feels more realistic with less glitches now and full body control on the ball, there is more fluidity. The Kinect microphone feature is quite nifty, where you can shout out your feelings to the referee. I love the skill games, there so addictive, you could find yourself on them for hours. The matchday feature is great, where latest scores and fixtures are read out. I like it when subbmitting offers for players in the transfer market, it puts the managers signature on each offer sent,to me it makes for a more realistic experience. Finally on career mode they have added a personal scout for the manager, telling you if you have any job offers, with international opportunities as well, which makes it intersting managing your own club at the same time. FIFA 13 is the best so far.

Best Game for Students!
Playing that perfect pass. Placing the ball perfectly in the corner of the net. Spinning past a dazed defender. These are the things that FIFA is all about. In FIFA 13 however, there are several changes that will affect the way the game is played. The new `first touch' system has added a degree of difficulty. No longer does Jay Spearing have the same first touch as Andrés Iniesta, and rightfully so. You now need to think before you play that 40 yard lofted through-ball, is it a David Silva on the other end? Or are you trying to make the killer ball through to an Emile Heskey, on the 1 in 100 chance that he'll get lucky and bring the ball down before a defender inevitably catches him? EA describe the new feature as "unpredictable but not random" and it really adds a new dimension to the game. More often than not the simple pass is what is required to maintain possession and look for a better opening, rather than risking it all on a Hollywood ball. While some may grumble that it slows the game down, really it just adds a new layer of complexity increasing the challenge of playing sexy football. Alongside the first touch system the key changes revolve around improved attacking intelligence, complete dribbling and a refined physics engine. These, when combined, amount to a leap in both the quality and fluidity of football that you can play. Now when you get the ball you are able to use complete dribbling to square up to the defender, hold up the play and wait for your AI teammates to make improved runs into space before playing the pass. While the defenders use the refined physics engine which aids to balance the attacking improvements by utilising the refined ability to push, pull and generally out-strength their opponents far more effectively than in FIFA 12. Though more often than not this results in handing free kicks to the opponent and collecting yellow cards. Essentially the new and refined features increases the types of goals that you can score, no longer is the finesse shot into the corner when given any amount of space going to result in a goal 9/10 times. Skill games are another welcome feature; they revolve around 8 facets of the game: shooting, advanced shooting, dribbling, free kicks, penalties, ground pass, lob pass and crossing. Helping those less adept improve their ability with the bronze and silver challenges while the gold and skill challenge will help more advanced FIFA players hone their trade - even nudging some towards using manual controls for even greater control, or much less in my case. This new feature is great fun; especially the advance shooting (1v2 attacking scenarios) and lob pass (football tennis!) skills challenges. This review has not attempted to compare the game to its only real rival, Pro Evolution Soccer (Soccer, really?). I respect everyone's right to have an opinion, however, if you're of the opinion that Pro Evo is better than FIFA, then you're just wrong. FIFA 13 again builds on the solid foundations of last years release and, despite little graphical improvement, the addition of first touch unpredictability along with the refinements to the physics engine makes it the only choice for football fans.

Massive improvement
I took up the season ticket option on XBOX live as I play the Ultimate team a lot and benefit from the 24 Gold Packs. This meant I have been playing the game for a week befoer release and it is amazing. I have jumped from Fifa11 to Fifa 13 andf the jump up erally makes the game so much better and believable. The games feel more fluid and withthe first touch, you can no long pass the ball on a dime and run the length of the field. The AI defence lives up the the I(intelligence) as it is much harder to break down defences to get the shots. And when you do get shots theycan make for delightful goals. The skill games that prelude a match are both great tutorials and far better than just shooting at a goal.
