Very good product. Sturdy at a great price.

It arrived on time & undamaged. I opened it immediately and gave it a good inspection. It was not oily or greasy. The machining appears to be well made without any burrs or rough areas. The legs were very stiff at the joint but a quick shot of spray lube loosened it enough without allowing the legs to just flop all over the place. Because it can ( & will ) be used as dividers, you want the legs to be stiff so they don't "travel " when marking spinning pieces of wood such as on a lathe. The points don't align exactly when you tighten the thumb screw on the lockable wing arm but you're going to double check your measurement before you scribe your line right? When it isn't tightened down the points are so closely aligned the very minor misalignment doesn't matter because you're probably going to be using them free hand to scribe your line on the spinning piece of wood on your lathe. Right? Overall I'm very satisfied with this American made tool. I recommend it in general & for the price.

Just received this tool. Device is what I would term 'heavy duty'. The pivot appears to be very tight, and produces sufficient friction to maintain a set for multiple measurements. Functionally, I would rate it five stars. However, that said, the finish along the edges of the divider arms was very crude, very primitive. It appears to have simply been pulled over a bench grinder with a coarse stone. I just spent 15 munutes with a large file, and a fine grade of emory paper/cloth and produced a nice polish and sheen. I may purchase non-USA manufactured tools occasionally, but I still expect to see a professional finish on my tools. The pencil holding sleeve is riveted to the arm, and holds the supplied pencils well. Neither of the screws employed on the tool, (hold-down for the arm locking arc, and the screw to retain the pencil) is captive, and run somewhat loosely. These could be easily lost if attetion isn't given keeping up with them. Afer the filing and polishing, the tool now looks much better, feels good to handle, and seems as though it will last. I would recommend the tool to others. The tool is used in a wood-working shop for repetitive measurements, as well as simplifiying measurement transfers. Have not attempted creating circles yet, though it certainly appears that it will work very well for that.

I bought this for my husband who paints portraits, landscapes etc. He recently did a pet portrait and had a difficult time getting both sides of the doggy body equal. After he explained the type of instrument would help in his future paintings, I researched on Amazon. Read lots of reviews, and decided on this product. He is really pleased with this instrument. It is well made and made with very sturdy metal. It is adjustable with a screw and if tightened, stays in place. It also has a pencil holder if needed and comes with pencils that fit. He looks forward to using this instrument on all kinds future projects (not just paintings).

This is a tool way beyond what I expected!! A really well manufactured scribe equipped for immediate use.

This product arrived in a box with one other lightweight item, surprisingly the piece that holds the pencil was broken off the compass. The compass is very sturdy and seemed well made so I was surprised the weld didn't hold. I contacted the company but heard nothing so I am starting an Amazon return and posting this review. I will update if the company reaches out to me. Update: A representative of the company who manufactured the tool responded to our initial email issue, and promptly sent us a replacement compass. This issue has been resolved beyond our satisfaction and my husband thinks the tool is great. Wishes he had purchased it sooner.

I use it for steel layout and appreciate it's robust construction. To open and close it takes some deliberate effort and I like that- so it's not easily moved from my measurement-aside from the locking knob. The points are sharp, ground the same on both legs, and the legs have a nice chamfer, it feels good in my hand. I'd buy this again!
