A revised introduction to the Linux operating system for beginning hackers and penetration testers. If youโre just getting started along the exciting path of hacking, cybersecurity, and pentesting, Linux Basics for Hackers is an excellent introduction. With Kali Linux, an operating system designed for digital forensics and penetration testing, youโll learn the basics of using Linux and acquire the tools and techniques youโll need to take control of a Linux environment. First, youโll learn how to install Kali on a virtual machine and get an introduction to basic Linux concepts. Next, youโll tackle broader Linux topics like manipulating text, controlling file and directory permissions, and managing user environment variables. Youโll then focus on foundational hacking concepts like security and anonymity and learn scripting skills with bash and Python. Practical tutorials and exercises throughout will reinforce and test your skills as you learn how to: Cover your tracks by changing your network information and manipulating the journalctl logging utility Write a tool to scan for network connections, and connect and listen to wireless networks Keep your internet activity stealthy using Tor, proxy servers, VPNs, and encrypted email Write a bash script to find potential attack targets over a range of IP addresses Use and abuse services like MySQL, the Apache web server, and OpenSSH Build your own hacking tools, such as remote spy cameras and password crackers New to this edition: This second edition has been updated to address recent changes to Kali and Linux, including a more secure approach to root privileges, updates to Bluetooth and Linux logging functions, and a new chapter with advice on AI in cybersecurity. Hacking is complex, and there is no single way in. Why not start at the beginning with Linux Basics for Hackers ? Review: must have book for new to kali folk. - Knowledge is a mathematical expression. amazing book. my expression is happy! Review: This IS where you start to understand it all! - While I haven't received my Second Edition book yet I do have the First Edition and I can say it's very thorough and well explained to even the beginner level. If you're trying to learn both Linux and Cybersecurity this IS the place you want to start. It will save you a ton of headaches and you're getting VERY VALUABLE skills you can use in any scenario. I would call it an advanced starting point. Linux itself can be somewhat difficult and daunting to learn and understand if you're coming from a strict use (Windows in my case) OS 25+ years. This book bridges that gap effectively and you can absorb the knowledge with a little work. Also watching OTW's video on YouTube with David Bombal is an excellent follow along source. In my opinion, OTW does the best job of explaining exactly what you need to know. And follow it up with a video or two of how to understand the Linux file system and you'll soon be set to go. David Bombal's vids on setting up VM on your computer are also very helpful! If your intention is to get into Cybersecurity from zero knowledge this IS the best point to gain valuable knowledge whether it's to crack into IT, Cybersecurity or just for your own knowledge, this book is worth 10x it's price!

I didnโt know a book could be this fun..
This book has been sooooo much fun since the second I opened it. Im a beginner at all of this. Just finished yesterday getting my first virtual machine up and running. Now Iโm learning the different terminal commands. The book is literally a step by step guide. If you can follow instructions, and are brand new, this is a great book. Having ChatGPT open while Iโm going through it has been very helpful. Itโs nice to have a deeper understanding of certain things. Iโm also not using windows or my primary OS and decided to learn Kali. I actually cannot wait to wake up in the morning and start working on chapter 3.
