Finally ditched my ripoff HP inkjet cartridges!!
I switched to this Brother HL-L3220CDW after years of watching my HP inkjet burn through cartridges way too fast. I looked around online, and Brother printers seem to be highly recommended over other brands. And in my experience, It's been a great decision. I've had this in my home office for a couple of weeks now, and it's been reliable and easy to use. One feature I really like is AirPrint support. I can print directly from my iPhone/iPad/Mac without needing to download the Brother app. This printer just shows up as an available printer. Just make sure you've got the printer set up to use your wifi. Simple and convenient. Setup was quick and painless. Make sure you remove all the packaging tape and plastic before you start using it (easy to miss a piece). Click through the screens and connect it to wifi (a little tedious, especially if your password is long like mine...uhg). Once that's done, load some paper and you're up and running! Print quality is great, and graphics are pretty consistent. Be sure to check Consumer Reports to see if this printer is rated for what you're going to be printing. But if it's just documents and an occasional picture, you should be good to go. And of course, toner costs are so much more reasonable than constantly replacing ink cartridges. If you're on the fence about switching from inkjet to laser, this Brother is a great pick.

Great printer for home use
This is a great product. We are very pleased with the printer. Have used it a few times. Easily connected to our devices and the print quality is clean and clear. It’s also very quiet when printing.

Last Brother Printer for Me
Good product...as expected. But the installation stinks. It refused to connect to the same network that my Epson printer install on with no effort. I had to hardwire it. I have three computers. This means that I have to print from the one that is hardwired to it. From the others, I have to get the file to print onto that pc in order to use this printer. There were three separate downloads. When it was finished installing, it asked me up update two of the programs. When I said 'ok', it clocked for a bit, then told me that I had the most recent version. One program, iPrint&Scan lists the types of files you can print; it does NOT include .txt files. The printer will print one, but apparently iPrint&Scan won't. I have never understood why printer manufacturers burden us with useless software for everyday tasks when they know we will not use it anyway. Bottom line: this is my last Brother printer. The first time I used it, I got an out-of-memory error. Not mentioned in the description, printer has only 256M of RAM, not upgradable. My picture was 25M. There are a whole lot of steps to work around the memory error. The first recommendation is lower the resolution. Restart the printer. etc. Bought it months ago; haven't tried it again. Probably will not.

Brother Color Laser HL-L3220 CDW
This Brother Color Laser Printer is HEAVY (It says so in BIG LETTERS right on the box!) not so much you can't lift it, but dropping it would be a DISASTER. It weighs 40 pounds in the box, so you might want some help moving it. The (included and already installed) BK C M Y toners are High-Yield, good for thousands of prints, and the included printed setup directions easy with clear diagrams on what to open, take out, and how to remove shipping tags and plastic protectors. So far though, turning the printer on and pushing the right buttons for the prompts on the LED display is mysterious. (There's a handbook for this printer I'll have to download!) I didn't do enough research and the printer will ONLY work with Windows 10 & 11 32 or 64 bit, Mac OS and Linux, so my W7pro computer's pictures must be downloaded to my other Windows 10 pro i7 with massive storage and RAM before I can do any printing. Getting the installation and setup programs is easy, (setup.brother.com) but none of that information is useful without at least a Windows 10 system that's compatible with the drivers. I got this printer because an ink-jet just doesn't have the quality for a long-lasting print, no matter what kind of paper it's printed on. A laser print on good paper will last for hundreds of years. That's value, but I like Windows 7 pro much better to work with, so it's a 2-stage process to print, which is easy to do with a shared USB SSD. I also like the USB-connected printing capability (which it has) but don't like WiFi for security concerns. On the Windows 10 pro computer the Brother Color Laser installation was done quickly. I had downloaded the "full" install version that includes the driver. The installation gave me the option of USB or WiFi. I just printed a photograph in rich darks and contrasting light tones (colors) from the open document in Photoshop 9. There was NO problem in recognizing the printer. The print only took about 10 seconds and came out beautifully, like the photo I took with amazing perfect details and exactly delicate colors and contrast. I had just resized it from 28 x 22 @ 180 to 10.5 x 8 @180 for normal A4 paper. It prints Art! I thought this printer would be a good idea, but it's even better than I thought.

be patient during setup
Took me a bit to go through the wifi connection process, however I have found it to be stable and efficient. Quality of prints are what you would expect from a color laser printer, fast and quiet. As mentioned setup took a bit of patience and effort, but once connected it meets all our expectations.

Most Compact in the Line Up | Reliable | Fast | Ink Efficient | No MCIR Support | Has Some Bugs
This is the most compact unit by Brother that adds the color capability to the previous generation's flawless and excellent "black and white only" printer I owned and was super happy with. It is as small as it can be at 15.7"D x 15.7"W x 9.4"H. Like its predecessor, the speed of processing is fast, there is rarely if ever a jam paper situation and if you run into one, it is easily remedied. Connection to the computer and devices are also a breathe. Also, you get an incredibly high number of prints before having to replace the cartridges. In contrast to the garbage ink guzzling bug ridden Canon printers that used up ink at jaw dropping rate. There is also black and white only print mode, so you won't use the color cartridges for black and white prints. You can also print on both sides of a page to prevent waste of paper. It doesn't have a scan function but that is really superfluous these days. You can use your phone or a dedicated camera set up to take photos with an overhead fixture with as much resolution if not more without limitation of the size that a built in scanner would impose or if you have serious scanning needs, you can invest in a standalone scanner. What is more important to me is the reduced weight and compact size of the unit. A disappointment that became an issue after purchasing the unit is that it doesn't support MCIR inks for printing checks that can be read by the financial institutions. It is rather surprising that there is no support for MCIR for any of the Brother's printers. They also don't recommend third party MCIR inks as it may damage the machine or impact the print quality. There are some issues with this unit that I found the solution to, which I didn't run in the ultra reliable black and white only model I used earlier. Occasionally, the prints you send to the queue abruptly disappear. The printer makes a noise and appear to be processing the job but then it stops. When you look at the queue list, the file is gone. You do not get an error or an explanation as to why this has happened. I am on Mac by the way OS Ventura. After troubleshooting I found out that very high resolution files are not liked by the printer. If this happens to you, reduce the resolution of the print jobs you send to the printer. I had created a number of high resolution 300DPI files and they invariably ran into this issue. Sometimes a complicated file name that has numbers, atypical characters, etc and is too long runs into the same issue. You have to rename the file to something simpler and then it prints. I have also printed designs on thick cardboard greeting cards and envelopes and it does an excellent job but you might run into jam errors depending on the thickness of the cards. The fix is very simple. You just open the tray and take the jammed card out and try again. Almost invariably the 2nd try works and the card itself is not chewed up or damaged. This is the most amazing thing about this printer; it leaves the paper intact if there is a jam. By the way the jamming only occurs with specific thicker paper types like this cardboard greeting card. Otherwise, I've never ran into an issue with label sheets, other paper types, etc. The print quality is very good. It dries fast as well so no worries about smudging the ink. Upgrading the firmware can be made easier. You have to go the link on the web that may trigger unsafe link warning from your browser (Brother suggests to ignore it and proceed with the link) in order to get to the section that allows you to upgrade the firmware. You have to enter the password printed in the back of the machine to complete the step. Nevertheless the firmware were updated but I didn't get a notice that a new update was available. I only learned of the update when I searched manually. An easier way is to download the Brother app and update the firmware easily that way. The app itself doesn't have much of any other use.

Great printer but heavy as hell.
I have been buying inkjet color printers for decades and have never been happy as I don't print in color that often. The ink dried out and I have to waste paper and ink getting it to work correctly. I swore to myself that I'd get a color laser printer as soon as they reached sub $300 and I bought this one. I couldn't be happier, it just works and having duplex-printing available is a big plus on saving paper. I'm still using the original toner cartridges. Someone gave me a Brother laser printer so I use that for monochrome and this for color. I am so happy that I can just print and it works when needed.

Printer cartridges way too sensitive
Not very user friendly. Our magenta cartridge keeps tripping and stops the printing process and it’s 2 months old. Cartridge is full so we have to open the unit take out the cartridge and shake it. Not happy at all! Customer service is a joke.I called the first time, svc rep said we needed to talk to color laser dept. and call cut off. Second time I got Marcellus who was pretty good but I had been on with him for 25 min. troubleshooting, and I had to leave for a dr appt. that I couldn't miss so my husband took over and I told Marcellus that...call dropped. These were over live chat.. Third time I called and waited for a real human being who ended up being so wonderful I couldn't believe it. She explained what likely happened, why cartridges were empty at 330 copies because this starter set came with the machine when I bought it. SOOOO recommended buying new cartridges which was $300.00 and I only paid $298 for the machine. I wish that had been put in your fine print when I bought it from Amazon. This gal also said she would call me the next day at 2:00 EST after I put cartridges in and SHE DID! She is the hero..She needs a raise also. She also told me how to print without color and how to check cartridges for fullness etc. SHE GETS a 10! Brother score I gave I will keep the same. You all have a long way to go in marketing as not explaining the cartridges are temporary. I likely would have bought a Canon instead and just paid the $600 dollars and not have had the headache from Brother. We have a business and can't have delays in our equipment waiting on Customer Service etc. Also, your entry into Brother on the website needs to be a little more user friendly. THe part where you enter your machne numbers doesn't come up that readily. All in all I have had a terrible experience with Brother. I feel like it was a rope a dope in that you sell the machine to show cheap and then WHAM you hit up the consumer with the real money maker for you, likely, in the printer cartridges. Seems like a type of marketing scam. I will forward my review to Amazon as well.

Great value color laser — perfect upgrade from inkjet headaches
After comparing several Brother color laser models (the L3220CDW, L3230CDW, and the higher-end L3280CDW), I ultimately chose the HL-L3220CDW because the feature differences simply didn’t justify the extra cost for my specific needs. I print mainly color documents, charts, travel paperwork, and occasional forms — not photos — so I prioritized reliability, low maintenance, and clean text output over advanced features. Setup & Connectivity (A+) Setup was exceptionally simple. I purposely did not install Brother’s full software suite because it usually includes unnecessary utilities. Instead, I connected the printer to my Wi-Fi network directly from the control panel. Within seconds: Windows 11 PC detected it via Wi-Fi and installed the built-in Windows driver macOS (Mac Mini M4) immediately recognized it via AirPrint iPhone also picked it up automatically using AirPrint No USB cable required, no CD, no bloatware. Everything worked flawlessly across all devices. Print Quality (For Color Documents) For what this machine is designed for — text, graphics, and business documents — the output is very clean. Text is sharp, color blocks are consistent, and toner adhesion is solid on standard 20–24 lb paper. Again, it’s not meant for photo printing, and that’s perfectly fine for me. Why I Switched From Inkjet My old inkjet required a cleaning cycle almost every time I printed, especially after a few days of inactivity. The clogged heads and wasted ink drove me to finally switch to a laser. The HL-L3220CDW completely eliminates that problem. It can sit idle for weeks and still print instantly with no maintenance. Noise & Speed First page out is fast for a color laser of this size Print engine is reasonably quiet Warm-up time is minimal For a compact unit, performance is excellent. Toner Costs The only downside is the price of original OEM toner. A full set of four cartridges costs almost the same as the printer itself. For that reason, I will be using third-party toners once the originals run out. I’ve had years of trouble-free experience with generic toners in other printers, so I’m not concerned. Final Thoughts Picked it up on a Black Friday sale, which made the value even stronger. If you need a compact, dependable, low-maintenance color laser primarily for documents — and you’re tired of clogged inkjet heads — this model is a fantastic choice. Easy setup, great compatibility across devices, and solid performance make it a very good buy. UPDATE : After a few weeks of usage ; Still love the machine, however the pages are very curled when the come out of the printer ; it also has a rear exit path , this reduces the curl effect slightly.

Perfecta
Es una impresora que funciona perfectamente, se puede configurar para ahorrar toner al máximo, los toners son un poco caros pero sabiendo utilizarla y configurarla es muy buena. La calidad de impresión es perfecta.

Make the switch, buy this affordable laser printer
For years, I've kept buying color ink printers and not one of them has been without issues. The last one I just replaced, is even worse, not only the printer just keeps clogging, but I was on one of these monthly free ink replacement deal. You choose the number of pages you print in a month and sign up for that plan. The worse experience ever, the vendor basically locked my printer and held it hostage due to having gone over the number of pages included in my membership. Can you imagine! Holding your printer you purchased hostage. Anyhow, I decided to spend a little more money and got this Color Laser Brother printer. Wow! Incredibly fast, great color rendition, and super fast printing. The included laser cartridges will last for thousands of pages. Folks, this is the best and most affordable laser printer you will get anywhere. Make the switch. That's all I can say.
