Powerful and Impressive
I got this Shark Stratos XL to replace my old cordless one, which after 4+ years, was starting to lose suction, and just not doing as good a job as I wanted it to. This one was very easy to set up, everything basically clicks into each other, but the instructions are lovely and clear. I was also very pleased to see all the accessories and pieces were wrapped in brown paper, no plastic in sight! It did take me a minute or two to insert the anti-odour disc, I've never seen one of those before, and you have to insert it before first use. It was pretty simple to do though, you just remove it from the metal can it comes in, line up the arrows and push it into place, then turn it until it clicks, and choose your intensity level. After using it for the first time, I can honestly say this is in a whole other league. It is so powerful, it's cleaned my carpets and hard floors amazingly, my carpets look brand new again! I have young children, so I vacuum every day, sometimes more than once! But look at how much dust this picked up from my living room only, I was shocked! (see my photos) The accessories are great, you get a thin crevice tool, a wider surface tool, and then the pet tool, which also has the anti-hair wrap technology built in. The anti-hair wrap you get with a Shark is a huge positive for me personally, I've had other brands of vacuum over the years which don't have this, and I was forever pulling hair from the brush bar. Not with a Shark! You can use it multiple ways, so cleaning the stairs, under furniture, or getting rid of high up cobwebs etc, is a breeze! I will just say, that is is quite bulky in size. It's also much heavier than what I'm used to, and it will take me a while to get used to having a cord again, but overall I am very happy and impressed. This is the power I wanted from my cordless stick, but it just wasn't up the job. I would definitely recommend!

Cleans really well including pick up dog hair - powered brush FTW.
Cleans ever so well. We have a black Lab and his hairs go everywhere and this machine cleans them all up from our thick carpets. The powered brush hasn't clogged up with hair or bits of thread yet, and that's after using it for months. And it's a powered brush! This is the main reason I bought this vacuum as I was sick of turbo brushes on my Henry getting lazy over time. I love the way it comes apart at the push of a button so you can easily carry the dust collector (the bit with the motor) up the stairs to clean them. Filtration is good, three separate filters, two washable and one where you can tap out the dust. Buy yourself a spare set. The dust collector holds a decent amount of stuff, just over a weeks worth of vacuuming (we live in a fairly big semi detached gaff). The other thing I love about it is that it will happily roll from a hard floor and onto a doormat, I've never had a vacuum cleaner that does this before. Criticisms: The power cord is almost long enough to reach without swapping sockets. 1 more metre, please. The dust collector needs two hands to open it, I would like to have it open with one hand at arms length over the bin instead. It's a little heavy to push round (but heavy means quality, right?) These criticisms are for Shark to read really, don't let me put you off buying one. I would buy this same unit again in a heartbeat, it's a brilliant machine, sucks like a hole in a spacesuit and picks everything up, right to the edge of the carpet.

Huge improvement over our last Shark that we loved. Great value
Amazing quality and value. Bought to replace a similar model by Shark but this is far superior. Suction is the best we've ever had, in standard mode or as lift away, much stronger than the replaced shark in both modes. The bin is much bigger than the old one. Everything about it is more robust and stronger in function and design than the standard shark designs. Edge cleaning is better than the other Shark. Still fits under the same furniture and the lights are great. Bin removal feels more robust and it's definitely better on lift away mode. Being chunkier it is easier to stand up without the base. Luckily there 3 floor type selections because on the strongest roller and suction settings it grips our large rug and moves the entire thing and would be impossible to use. Didn't expect it to be this much better than the other Shark we used, prices weren't that different but this is clearly a flagship model and had a big price drop. It is so strong that it will instantly strip the casing of electrical cable then shred the exposed wires I'd expect, luckily only got to the outer stripping part! So be careful, it's incredible, the rollers seem super powered and are definitely not getting clogged with the hair as the other Shark used to. It's getting the dog hairs out of the rug and upstairs carpets much more effectively. We loved our old Shark and it was a no brainer to replace with the same brand but don't dnt realise this was a huge step up in every way. Insane value for money tbh. Doesn't mark our engineered oak flooring despite it's huge increase in lower It Is unusual looking, many Shark are but this looks more industrial, more purposeful, I guess the looks for the function. 100% recommended this model, no negatives at all.

Too easy to run over the lead and cause damage!
Was initially impressed with the suctio although not as powerful as other reviews have stated even on full power. Make sure you have some black Electrical tape handy also as the first thing it did was run over the really long cord which luckily I managed to turn it off before it exposed the wires!. Not a good start for such an expensive Hoover, my other Shark never did this however many times it went over the cord so not sure why this model likes to do it.. I would not say it was any more powerful, just has a larger bin capacity and has the same weight and looks a bit nicer. The anti hair wrap is the same, stability is good and I like the different height levels for different floors.. The lights are better, the tools are good and the cord length is better.. Also the tools and parts came wrapped in recycle brown paper which I liked instead of more plastic. Also not quite sure of the Anti Odour system... I could not smell anything at all even on high setting. Not quite 5* because of the damage to the cord after just 5 minutes!.. be aware of this if you want to buy it.

This is The One
Chuckling at every review of this I read that says, 'we had a Dyson so we know...' You knew TV ads, love. That's all. You bought an overpriced gimmick with a charlatan's name on the side. The photos speak for themselves so I'll just add, it's not too loud (frankly it's surprisingly quiet given the performance), the anti-odour thing works well enough that I'm not going to resent buying a new one every now and again, it IS heavy but it's also manoeuvrable, and most importantly for me and the main reason I bough a pet speciality device, the anti hair-wrap tech works. Every 'test' I see of such things involves someone lightly treading some cut hair into a thin mat and seeing what happens but that's not real world. Real world is long hair and debris trod into the carpet over such a long time that it becomes part OF the carpet, real world is not vacuuming as often as you should because you're just too tired, real world is a thick longhair rug or vetbed that was brilliant for the dog when you bought it and is now so clogged it's basically a health hazard. And this thing did it all without any trouble. It'll never face a sterner test than what I put it through yesterday - a dog's playroom that hasn't been properly cleaned in 3 years. And I didn't go easy, pre-brushing, or even picking up larger clumps of hair (or stuffing from chewed up soft toys) that had accumulated around table legs and the like. I just threw this at it. And it was a JOY. There was a little bit of hair wrap on the soft roller, but that detaches for cleaning easily enough and the main roller? Not one bit. The single best performance of a roller vs dog hair I've seen in 30 years. I'd considered spending more and getting a Sebo (not least because bagged vacs do tend to be better since the bag acts as a filter), but that has the same basic brush roller as every vac I've wrapped in dog hair before, and I decided the flexibility of this was worth more to me. Detaching the bin and holding it in your hand is a bit gimmicky and won't be for everyone, but it does mean cleaning all the way under a double bed is possible without too much fuss. Negatives? You have to nitpick. It will be too heavy for some. Being left-handed the power cord is on the wrong side for me and is a bit of a pain. The handle isn't the best design for when you've lifted it out and are doing the edges. The holders for the accessories are rubbish and you'd be better off storing them separately because they get in the way and fall off. There are better LEDs on other vacs. Emptying the bin is a two-step process (top and bottom lids) rather than one. But that's reaching. It's an excellent machine. It's now in a house with a Henry which I hate the ergonomics of, a G-Tech Air Ram which is nice but just isn't up to dealing with the dogs, a handheld for quick jobs, and some thing so useless I can't even remember the name of it. This will replace all of them. There's nothing any of them do better. I got it for £250 which is a steal. I wouldn't feel at all short-changed if I'd spent £400.

Very Good Vacuum Cleaner
Cant fault this vacuum cleaner works well and reaches every where, would be nice if they added places to store the accessories but then I guess we cant have every thing

Hmmm.
Ok. So I am a product designer, so this review may need to be taken with a grain of pedantic salt .. This hoover does what it says on the tin. Great suction and excellent dealing with pet hair. It comes with compromises. First of all, it weighs a ton. I am fairly elderly, but in good physical condition, and I find moving this hoover around like trying to move a fridge. The design is very 'clunky'. Even the cord is heavy, doesn't retract and gets hung up on furniture. You have to develop a continual cord flipping manoeuvre to keep it away from the heavy vaccume head so it doesn't get sucked into the unit. It gets a bit tedious. On to the lift away part. All good in concept, but a few issues here as well. The hose is quite short, so you have to hold the lift away unit in one hand while hoovering. Sit the unit on the floor when hoovering the sofa and pull too far and the canister falls over. This is when I start to miss my old canister hoover on wheels. It wouldn't take much to add wheels onto the Lift Away unit to make it more versatile. It is also kind of difficult to take apart and put back together when you use the various functions. So, it's a great vaccume cleaner in terms of suction and performance, but not good when it comes to design.

Worth every penny!
Just received this vacuum today. I couldn't wait to try it! It's very sturdy. The suction is absolutely brilliant! Easy to use on the 3 settings located on the handle and the big 2.6 litre dust cup is great. The only thing I'd say, that's slightly negative, is that it's quite heavy. Worth every penny for what I need. Well done Shark!
