🐟 Dare to savor the boldest bite of Sweden’s legendary fermented herring!
Röda Ulven Surströmming Fillets are a traditional Swedish delicacy featuring Baltic herring fermented naturally in brine for 4-5 months. Packaged in a classic tin that may bulge due to ongoing fermentation, these fillets deliver a uniquely pungent and flavorful experience. Best opened outdoors to safely release built-up pressure, this high-protein gourmet item invites adventurous food lovers to partake in a centuries-old cultural ritual celebrated annually on Surströmming Day.

Great memories
I cannot understate how smelly these fish were. It smelled like death but like not death I have ever smelled. Interesting taste, salty and fishy of course. Great fillets. My package arrived ahead of schedule and made for a delightful laugh when the can exploded on opening in my mother, who acted as though she was hit with a caustic acid and raced to strip as fast as possible. 100/100 recommend

Horrifying — Not Fish, Just Rotting Mush
This was by far the worst thing I’ve ever purchased on Amazon. I expected strong smell and taste — it’s surströmming after all — but what I received wasn’t even edible. When I opened the can, there were no fillets, no chunks, not even a single piece of fish. Just a disgusting, grayish sludge that looked like it had already been digested. You can see the picture — it speaks for itself. The texture was slimy and foamy, and the smell was indescribable — like a mix of sewage and decaying fish left in the sun. This is not a traditional delicacy, it’s a health hazard in a tin. Complete waste of money.

Yes, you know what it is...
Was exactly what you think it will be. The can expiration time was the same as when we received it, and was so puffy it looked explosive, so we know it would be exciting to open. Once opened it continued to fizz like an Alka Seltzer tab in a glass of water. The taste? Salty. The texture? Hard Bones and mushy flesh. The smell? Imagine opening a soiled diaper, that had been wrapped in a plastic bag and left on the dash of a car in the middle of summer. For a week. Don't knock it 'till you've tried it...

The flavors are melting on my tongue!
The complex flavor of this herring is not for the feint of heart. Opened it at work because my wife had sent this to me as a gift and I nearly cleared out the whole building. While standing in an isolated location I wrapped it in tortillas with some onion and butter. Despite the smell, actually not bad.

Surströmming Fillets - Fermented Herring Fillets in Traditional Tin
The can was dented in four places and swollen. It was in really bad condition. Surströmming Fillets - Fermented Herring Fillets in Traditional Tin

Do not buy
Terrible product. There was zero fillets in the tin. Nothing but liquid. Complete rip off for $40 and Amazon won't refund my money. F this vendor and f Amazon.

smelly laughs
This thing was the smelliest thing ever. I gave it to my in-laws as a gag, but my in-laws are old school and ended up eating it, even though it stunk up the whole house.

Poor quality product, especially for the price.
Overrated, but then I'm used to eating fermented food. I've fermented raw beef liver and ate it and it was worse than this stuff. My problem with this particular product is that I only got the fish skins and none of the meat like I've seen in Youtube videos. The skin by itself is hardly a fillet. Also it was extraordinarily salty, and I love salt. The salt is what made it hard to eat, not the fermented fish itself.
