My battery has just died after having it for a year. How do I change it?

There is 4 tiny screws to undo then you can change the batteries it takes 2.

How accurate have people found the sleep monitoring? Also would this be a suitable size for a 9 year old child or would it be too bulky? Thanks!

Reasonably accurate, although if you sit still and read book before bed, it some times thinks you are sleeping lol. Even the smaller one will probably be too big for a 9 year old. The main body is about 2 cm wide and about 5-6 cm long (before the strap comes into play)

Can you share you activity with strava?

If you download Garmin Connect to upload your data, the you can add Strava as 3rd party app, so yes you can.

can you use this without it being connected to a smartphone? -i have an old brick not a smartphone

It would give you basic functionality but I don't think it has built in GPS - you need a phone for that - so wouldn't track your walks There are others out there that offer better value for money
