The two-CD and set, features the album's seven original songs and previously unreleased demo recordings of 'Eyes of the World' and 'Here Comes Sunshine'. Recorded in early 1973, just before the Grateful Dead performed on February 9th, the demos feature Jerry Garcia singing and playing a pair of new songs he and Robert Hunter had been creating. Additionally, the deluxe edition includes a bonus disc of live material from the final night of a brief tour that immediately followed 'Wake of the Flood''s release, captured at Northwestern University's McGaw Memorial Hall on November 1st, 1973. Review: What a brilliant cd. - The Dead at their best. The second cd is live and the sound quality is great. Even with only one drummer, Bill, the sound is fantastic. What you expect from the GD- quality . Review: Good sounds - Excellent service thanks very much appreciated

Grateful Dead: Wake Of The Flood (1973)...50th anniversary edition.
Beautifully packaged 2 disc edition comes with lovely embossed slip case. This album saw the band take another step forward in their musical journey and im sure the influence of Steely Dan was soaked up. So we have an album of 'Grateful Dan' or should that be 'Steely Dead'? ha ha Dis c1 is the original album plus a couple of demos, the demos are interesting but wouldnt have beaten any of the material/versions that made the final cut.Classic cuts for me 'Row Jimmy' and 'Let Me Sing Your Blues Away',they just make me smile. Disc 2, sadly only 60 mins or so,so clearly not a full 'gig' from 1973 but what we get is wonderous atmospheric music from one of thee great bands. The music just washes over you and before you know it,your hitting the play button again, its that good. As with all these reissues it comes with informative booklet.I have tried to get this disc at a reasonable price for years,so this reissue is a godsend, brilliant.

WAKE OF THE FLOOD Remaster captures the feel of The Dead
There have been a few Grateful Dead re-issues over the last few years. Workingman's Dead with it cover picture 180grm vinyl and also American Beauty that absolute classic of a Dead album, given the 180grm vinyl treatment. Both those releases sit proudly among my collection. Now we have Wake of The Flood in a double CD release with informative booklet recalling the history of the album etc. Of course Wake of The Flood was the Dead's first album recorded after the death of Pigpen. Enter Keith and Donna Godchaux. They also incorporated other musicians namely those from Jerry Garcia's bluegrass band Old and In The Way. Lead off track Mississippi Half-Step Uptown Toodeloo features Vassar Clements from that band to great effect. It is obvious that Garcia was reaching new heights on this album as the early tracks Row Jimmy and the absolute treasure Stella Blue testify. The feel and flow of those tracks is worth the price of admission for this remaster. The more you play this album, the more these songs connect like they did in the past Here Comes Sunshine and the Weather Report Suite hit the mark over and over again. The second disc features a live version of Uncle John's Band from aforementioned Workingman's Dead album taken from a concert at McGaw Memorial Hall in 1973. Once again it is a joy to hear live and a cool version of Morning Dew also hits the senses. Wake of The Flood was a grand offering from The Grateful Dead and this reconsideration of it is well worth investing in.
