Don't bother. This is completely unsuitable for hoof knives which are curved, this is flat, like a file.

Works well

I am really impressed with both how well this is made and how well it works. I'd passed on a brand name one I saw that was nearly three times what this one cost, and while the grit seems the same between the two, this one is solid metal in a plastic handle vs the more expensive one being a sheet of metal around a plastic core in a plastic handle. This sharpener gets my hoof knives extremely sharp with very little effort, and is especially great for my loop knife. This oval shaped one leaves a much more consistent edge vs trying to use a thin rod sharpener, and fits perfectly in the hook too. Most of the rod sharpeners I've used do not work well in the hooks, leaving them oddly shaped or not sharpened in the middle. Got through all my knives in minutes, and they actually cut through summer hooves now.
