46 new books in the bestselling Little Black Classics series, to celebrate the first ever Penguin Classic in 1946 Review: Penguin does it again - I love Penguin, I always know I can expect quality with their products. The book came in great condition. It is small, and I know it is part of the "Little Black Classics" but even that distinction may not prepare you for how small it is. However, for me, this was not an issue. The text is easy to see and read, and this is not a novel, this is more a collection of aphorisms, and in my opinion, a very nice collections of aphorisms. Some are funny and witty, clever and reek of sarcasm, and some are potentially more jarring to the reader, prompting more self-discovery and philosophical thinking. Wilde was a controversial figure in his own time, and I believe a reader will see that upon reading this book. If I may make a recommendation - If you like this, whether because you like Wilde's style of writing, his ability to be witty and deep, sarcastic and genuine simultaneously, perhaps you like challenging views about spirituality, the morality of man, or the gritty reality of life, or maybe you are looking for another collections of aphorisms to grace your coffee table as a conversation piece or quick read - then I would recommend "Aphorisms" by Franz Kafka. There are many different publishers that have collected his aphorisms, but when it comes to Kafka, I always recommend Schocken as a publisher. It isn't his best work, but if you can find an affordable copy, I believe it is worth a read. Review: Not a short story - I thought it was a short story but it’s a book of quotes on a variety of topics and life itself. Still interesting though.

Exquisite Reading!
A marvelous little collection of Wilde's best quotes. Comedic relief in tragic and sour times. I loved it!

Wilde is brilliant, our famous non-conformist.
Great rejections and revisions of the orthodoxies of the ways and hypocrisies of the middle class.

interesting
I’ve heard of oscar Wilde. This was a great introduction into his mind. Some funny and clever aphorisms. Definitely got me interested in knowing his history. His works.

Fun. Witty.
Great, fun, quick read. confirms your beliefs, pokes fun at yourself and attitudes. To be enjoyed, not taken personally i think. Still relevant today, although i wonder how his scathing sharp wit would describe the world today and its ridiculous leaders, politicians, heads of state, corporates and players . Perhaps our loss of great language was made for such a generation as this, but reading this, it seems we are missing many old artists.

Just when I think I've had enough...
...he draws me back in. By and large insufferable, Wilde's aesthetic produces the occasional gem. Not enough to make me like him, but enough to keep me interested.

Please read this
I think this one is easily one of my best reads of 2026 so far. .and the craziest part is that it’s not even a proper storybook. ..It’s basically a collection of Oscar Wilde’s thoughts, observations, experiences, and little truths about life that somehow still feel so relevant now...This book honestly felt like reading wilde’s personal diary. Like you’re sitting with Wilde while he casually says the smartest, funniest, and most painfully accurate things ever... Some lines genuinely made me laugh, and some made me stop and think for a solid minute...It’s such a tiny book, under 50 pages, but somehow it stays in your mind the whole day after reading...Also this book is made for annotating... If I had the physical copy, trust me, it would’ve been full of tabs, highlights, notes..& everything... What I loved most is that it talks about literally every little thing..people, emotions, society, love, sadness, intelligence, human behaviour.. all written with that sharp Wilde sarcasm that makes every line feel iconic...this is my very first Oscar wilde book and totally loveddd this...If you’re someone who loves witty books, relatable thoughts, smart writing, and little brutally honest truths about life, then PLEASE read this one... Absolutely loved it...100% recommending it....💯

Little book of wit
I've been a fan of Oscar's for many years. Nice to have a little book of his aphorisms to hand, to dip into when a moment of wit is needed. Nice quality pocket-sized book.

Super Buch
