Would this work well for a door that has farmhouse type of trim (trim/casing is about an inch thicker than the door)?

I wouldn’t recommend this product for that kind of door. It wouldn’t work because of how the lock needs to be positioned to work.

Yes, if your door frame allows you to do so . I had to put mine low because it didn’t fit any higher and didn’t allow me to close the door .
