Synology 2-Bay NAS DS223 (Diskless) Black

This was a replacement for an earlier product. Set-Up could not have been simpler, just changed the disks from the failed unit and followed the instructions to migrate all settings and data. "Done and Dusted". A very effective NAS for home use.

NAS drive has been up for a month now and all working well. It was much simpler to set up than my old one (different brand, many years ago).

Was really easy to upgrade from my previous 10 year old NAS. Simply swap the drives over and run through the wizard 🪄. Works faster than my previous and not loss of data or configuration.

I bought it to do the heavy lifting of running the Emby and Surveillance servers instead of my computer which it does very well along with backing up my computer once a week. With the surveillance suite i get all the perks of a Tapo camera subscription without the monthly/ annual cost. I was pleasantly surprised i got picture alerts to my apple watch as well. I’m very happy i bought the Synology and there are plenty of helpful videos online.

Great value for money when you take into consideration the savings from cloud services the value for money just increases. It’s quick and easy to setup. The Synology quick connect operating system is very good and very easy to use. It can be quite loud because of the fans but nothing more than any other home server would be. It’s build quality is great and you get to dim the flashing lights so if you don’t mind the sound it’s not to bad to be in the room with. The USB port in the front is quick if you need to upload large amounts of files from an external drive and the Ethernet is very speedy. Only thing to keep an eye on is CPU and RAM, if you know you are going to need to do heavy CPU or RAM tasks as on this model it’s lower.

First came with a faulty fan. Bit anoyed had to wait 15 days for refund, was good to be offered a replacement or fix. The NAS is ok, software simple and easy to use. Perfect to have pictures and videos on it. I use 2 TB WD red drives, very quiet.

Bought this to replace my old DLINK 323 and had heard that the apps were great. They're not. After playing with them for a while I wound up deleting them and purchasing a 3rd party app to sync my files. On your own local network you don't need this and can just make a batch file with Robocopy though. I purchased this one over the UGREEN as I heard the user experience was better and tbh I wished I'd gone with UGREEN now as it's not that slick and UGREEN has better hardware. Also Amazon's chatbot told me it would come with a UK 3 pin plug. It lied. And Amazon's "solution" was to hassle with returning the whole thing which I really didn't want to do. Luckily I had an old kettle lead I could use. Also you would think purchasing drives for this would be easy. But Amazon will only sell you one hard drive. You can't add two to your basket (which is kind of stupid given they are NAS optimised drives). I had to ask someone else to purchase the second one in order to get both delivered.

Item appears to be great, not tried it yet BUT...... Ordered on UK amazon site, with indication it will take a few days to arrive - Not a problem Updates show its coming from overseas - Not a problem, but no notification in the product details in advance. So when it arrives, it does not have a UK power lead!!, but a USA power lead. You need to be clear in the product details, I would have simply ordered the correct UK lead at the same time. instead of now having to source a UK complaint lead

Arrived early. Easy to set up, slotted 2x6TB... Hassle free setup.... Highly recommended for reliable NAS....

The setup requires bit of networking knowledge. It is not direct plug the ethernet cable and automatically recognized / configured. You need to put a L3 switch between computer and this NAS, then find the IP address and then configure it. I
