Sealey Sms2003 Saw Blade Sharpener - Bench Mounting 110W

I bought this sharpener in spite of a few iffy reviews…I’m very glad I did…I love it. I have already sharpened enough blades to pay for the sharpener. Some reviews mentioned that it’s not a precision tool. I’m sure there are more precise sharpeners, but they cost two or three times as much. I don’t use the stops that come with the tool as I found it easier to simply use my eyes and hands to judge the cuts on each tooth. It worked an absolute charm. Each saw blade is sharper than when I bought them. I couldn’t be more pleased. If you’re good around hand tools at all, you will find this sharpener easy to use and very effective.

OK. Why spend £72 and expect a machine quality in the category of £300 plus ? This little sharpener requires adaptibility. It also requires someone who is willing to give it a chance and adjust on the possibly sloppy factory assembly of parts before operating. Advice. unbolt and get rid of the tensioner boom and sprung arm. It interferes with the job. Mount the machine on a workmate for more flexibility and clamp into position. UNPLUG the machine. Turn the workmate round so you can point a good spotlight into the place where saw tooth and diamond disc will meet. Fasten the blade onto the appropriate place. I tightened the knurled hand nut right down against the spring, making sure that it was all level and equally spaced. Swing the saw blade and adjust it so that when the machine body handle is raised in order to pull the diamond disc into position, the diamond disc jutts into the space between the teeth but will not hit the bottom of the gap and cut into the saw blade. Be sure to loosen the grubscrew on the supporting pillar and ease the pillar up so it rests against the underside of the saw blade. It's not rocket science. Now turn the saw blade and adjust the arm on its pivot until the tooth angle is correct when resting on the side of the disc. Get this exactly right. The spotlight helps a lot. Tighten the blade holder pivot arm nuts etc. so it is firm and will not 'wander' . Time spent on this is not wasted. Re- check how the blade and disc will contact. Your cutting efficiency and blade life epend upon this. Goggles and gloves, pull the grinding shield down to horizontal, and start up. Pull the machine handle up so the disc is rotating within the saw gap, gently rotate the saw blade clockwise until the front face of the tooth is ground and no signs of old surface left. A few seconds is enough - pull back the machine handle and check - if there's still an old dirty surface left on the face of the TCT tooth - grind a little bit more. Check again and mark the tooth with a felt-tip pen. Turn your saw blade so the next gap is centred with the retracted diamond disc, pull up the machine handle and repeat the process. Why bother at all ? For me it's over 90 miles to the other side of the country where the expensive tool stores live. On a website,often £18 in postage charged by some firms because of our postcode - so a £14 cheap blade is a bit of a joke. This machine is not high-tech and will not adjust various ground edges on the tooth sides, but it will sharpen your blades and keep you working instead of biting your nails. 'Wish it was £50 though.

Did the job as described saved many saw blades

Value for money it is probably the best I have seen on the market. I note with interest the reviews I read prior to purchasing the machine. Many commented about the lack of refinement. It would not have been difficult to modified the design to include fine adjustment using threaded bolts. This would greatly enhance the operation and performance of the device. It is evident from reading the reviews that those people with technical and practical knowledge are able to adapt the machine using their expertise to improve the machine operation. Hence the reason I gave the machine three stars.

Not fit for purpose product. Complained to Sealey who sent me back to Amazon who then sent me in circles on their app. Don’t buy this product - it does not work and does not secure the blade in place to enable it to be sharpened correctly. Only given it one star as it won’t allow me to write a review without a star but really deserves no stars.

This is a great product. It needs a small amount of intelligence when setting it up to do the job. My Festool blade for the TS75 was working cutting like a brand new blade after sharpening with it. The chap who wrote a bad review and gave 1 star probably just couldnt figure out how to set it up. It allows you to set a kerf angle by eye and a bevel angle by degrees on a scale.

He said he found it fiddly to set up but easy to use. Very happy with results.

Other than the European plug all good 😊

Lo primero es lo primero, llegó exactamente como se dijo que llegaría. Al abrir la caja descubrí que no tenía un enchufe europeo, tuve que ir a comprar uno. Además, las instrucciones son pequeñas para leer, leer y no están en español. Aunque la máquina es barata, sigue siendo demasiado costosa para lo que está obteniendo. La barra para mover el disco hacia adelante y hacia atrás es demasiado delgada, se doblará tan fácilmente
