I needed something a bit lighter than the other book which I am reading, so I picked up this one about Percy the park keeper. Percy lives in a small hut in the park. All of the animals know him, as he is happy to share his lunch with them. But one snowy night, the animals need something else. And, of course, Percy is only happy to help. This was a very cute story. The illustrations are lovely too, and I am sure that young readers will delight in all of the animals trying to find a place to rest. A charming little tale. Review: A lovely wintery story to cuddle up with - We were looking for winter themed books for our toddler to read specifically as Christmas approached last year. It’s the only Percy the park keeper story we own so far, but this has certainly set the bar high! It sets such a lovely picture, describing getting all warm and cosy for bed time on a cold winter night whilst also promoting kindness and sharing towards those less fortunate; very apt for around Christmas. The story doesn’t actually mention Christmas if that is something you were or weren’t hoping for, but I think this just helps it feel relevant and not out of place all year round, or specifically on a dark autumnal/wintery night. The story is a little longer than say Julia Donaldson novels, and no rhyming here, just well written, descriptive text that flows nicely when read out loud. It’s illustrated beautifully and all the animals knocking at the door one by one keeps my daughter very engaged. The penultimate page which has a large picture of inside Percy’s hut, allows a few minutes of ‘find where the animals are hiding’ and is full of hidden details. It just makes me want to brew a hot cocoa and get into bed when reading it, and I’m all for helping the seasons to feel right!

histoire et illustrations à la hauteur des meilleurs livres d'auteurs anglais pour enfants, trop rares chez les auteurs francophones; humour et message de responsabilité et de bienveillance (sans condescendance!) envers les animaux, au contraire de notre littérature française.
