"WIND RIVER follows U.S. Fish & Wildlife agent CORY LAMBERT (Jeremy Renner) as he is forced to confront his past when he joins a rookie FBI agent in a quest to solve a murder on the Wind River Indian Reservation in Wyoming. Cory Lambert discovers a body in the rugged wilderness of the Wind River Indian Reservation. The situation is eerily similar to the death of his own daughter. The FBI sends rookie agent JANE BANNER (Elizabeth Olsen) to investigate. A Florida native, Jane is completely unprepared for the oppressive weather and isolation that is the essence of winter in Wyoming, and the extreme difficulties it places on the investigation. She employs Cory as a guide and tracker to assist her. Together, they venture deep into a world ravaged by violence and the elements. While Jane is compelled to rely more on her instincts than her education, Cory is forced to confront emotions buried years ago as the possibility of solving not only this murder, but also the disappearance of his Review: Excellent movie! - Excellent story, great actors. I bought this movie because I knew I'd watch it again and again over time. Review: Soul crushingly sad - This is definitely one of the best movies of 2017. The story centers around the mystery of a dead native American girl/woman (18 years old). It is not an action thriller. It is a "deliberately paced" (read slow) mystery, but I was never bored. If you liked "The Killing" or "Broadchurch" you will probably like this too. The pace allowed proper character development. With the exception of the "bad guy" revealed at the end, all the characters are nuanced and interesting. Ultimately, I cared about what happened to each of them. The ending is satisfying, but not happy. Renner gives a wonderfully understated and brilliant performance as the protagonist. His characters is broken but pushes past his own pain to help the people he cares about. He is a gun carrying hunter, but lacks any male bravado you would expect from Hollywood. He cries, he hugs, he is gentle with others but never once comes across as a wimp. He is rugged and sincere, a High Noon Marshall Kane type. Olsen also turns in a great performance, but her characters is mostly expositional. She plays an in-over-her-head FBI agent, who is also free of typical Hollywood tropes. She is assertive and confident, but also smart enough to ask for help when she needs it and to apologizes when she is wrong. She is no wilting flower, but also not the caustic shrew we would typically get for a woman FBI agent. We learn about the reservation and protagonist through her eyes. We see the brokenness and nobility without any sanctimony, guilt or lectures. Graham Greene play the same character in which he is usually cast. But, he continues to play the Reservation chief of polices exceptionally well. He is disappointed when he meets Olsen's character, the young lone agent sent to investigate, but fails to treat her with contempt. He expresses his sadness and frustration, at the lack of help, with the gusto of a man who accepted his lot in life long ago. But because our young agent clearly cares about the victim and justice, he attempts to gently mentor her while still respecting her authority.

A fantastic but tragic murder mystery thriller
"You can't steer from the pain. If you do, you'll rob yourself." - see below for full quote. Wind River is a fantastic, gripping and tragic murder mystery set on a frigid Wyoming Native American reservation. The writer/director Taylor Sheridan hits his stride with this one. He channels the pain of those that have lost children and the harsh realities of life on the reservation. He also choreographed several scenes that are some of the most intense action scenes in any movie, period. Jeremy Renner and Elizabeth Olsen literally disappear into their roles as the game warden and FBI agent respectively. That is no small task given the notoriety they've gained with their roles in The Avengers This is one of those movies you can watch multiple times and still enjoy every moment. I can't wait to see his next endeavor. Full dialogue of above quote: "I'd like to tell you it gets easier. it doesn't. If there's any... comfort, it's... getting used to the pain, I suppose. Went to a grief seminar in Casper. Did you know that? I don't know why. Just wanted the bad to go away. Wanted answers... to questions that couldn't be answered. The counselor come up to me after the seminar and sat down next to me. And he said something that stuck with me. I don't know if it's what he said, or how he said it. He says, "I got some good news, and I got some bad news. Bad news is you're never gonna be the same. You're never gonna be whole, not ever again. You lost your daughter. Nothing's ever going to replace that. Now the good news is, as soon as you accept that, and you let yourself suffer... you allow yourself to visit her in your mind, and you'll remember all the love she gave you, all the joy she knew." Point is, Martin, you can't steer from the pain. If you do, you'll rob yourself... You'll rob yourself of every memory of her. Every last one. From her first step to her last smile. Kill 'em all. Just take the pain, Martin. You hear me? You take it. It's the only way you'll keep her with you."

Dark and intense. Probably not a good date movie.
intense and slightly disturbing movie. Very morose but impossible to pull a away from. Not what I expected but well done. Has a social justice message at the end that taints the entertainment value though.

This is a great movie on the edge of your seat. You will watch it more than once!
Where do I start? SMH. I watch this movie several times a week. It's a Taylor Sheridan (Yellowstone) movie. It's just amazing. People today keep yelling about racism and the government owes me this and that! I'm treated soo bad. Well... no one is treated as bad as the American Indian. We should be ashamed. Yes.. there are some government programs to help them yet they are not easy for them to get. The government makes sure of that. This movie is an eye opener. It shows how society continues to treat them and hold them back. It's like they are fighting against the wind. A battle they will never win. The acting is perfect! Jeremy Renner and Gil Birmingham (Twilight) and Graham Green are amazing. They show the pain and the resilience of the Native American Indian spirit! A wonderful movie. Very moving.

Unbedingt sehenswert.

PELÍCULA INTERESANTE, MUY BRUSCA, PERO LOS PAISAJES DE NIEVE EXCELENTES. ES UN ACTOR QUE HE DESCUBIERTO NO HACE MUCHO TIEMPO Y ME PARECE BASTANTE CORRECTO.

This is a taut thriller with beautiful scenery as a backdrop, great acting and a fine script. It was so good that I watched it a second time the following day. So good...
