These lava rocks in the 1/2 inch size are a great size to use in potting mixes to losen up the mix for better air penetration, drainage, and easy small piece of lava rock will hold a bit of water which it slowly releases back into the potting mix as needed. It is also a great size for those that want to cover the top of the potting soil to lessen moisture loss to the atmosphere while looking natural and attractive.

I am pleased with the product, as it serves as part of the bottom-level substrate mix for my smaller planted aquariums, which are capped with sand (~10 gallons). It is as pictured and of the volume noted. The black 5lb bag was ideal (a tall 10-gallon vase and a tall 10-gallon rectangle). Given the cost and size of individual pieces, I would probably not use the 5-lb bag in a larger aquarium, but would purchase a large amount. NOTE: I would definitely rinse the lava rock thoroughly before using it in an aquarium to remove dust.

Rock/ rock size is as described. Small bag , thought there'd be more volume than this . Clean , no dust to speak of .

I am able to place these grandules into the base of an outdoor metal flower to keep the plant from blowing away. Not bulky and looks like dirt.

Small size best for hang on the back aquarium filters

Rocks are one inch of size, no way they can be used for Bonsai, super disappointed!!
