I feel it is great for a book report for a middle or highs school student that needs something that is comprehensive. I also think it is a great homeschool aid. I am always looking for books that will help me with educating my children. I like how the book outlines the legend of Ragnar Lothbrok. Noah Brown goes into great detail about his life and everything to do with him, including his characteristics. The great thing about the book is how he covers Vikings all over the world. You can read about vikings in Rollo, Russia, America, England, Wales, Scotland, Ireland, and France. He pretty much covers it all in this book. If you are a fairly quick reader, you can get through the book in about 3 hours or so. It was definitely a great book to read through for history. Review: Wonderful Viking History - I have been watching 'Vikings' the TV show made for the History channel. This raised several questions about the Vikings. I bought this book to learn more about the history of the Vikings. Noah Brown has done an excellent job of handling the subject matter; He breaks it down by different regions that the Vikings raided. This book is well documented and goes along with a lot of the history I was sure was true. As the Vikings did not write down their adventures, most of what we know about them is from other people's history and Viking mythology.

Life and Times of the Vikings
The balance of Ragnar's life and the history of Vikings throughout parts of Western Europe is tasteful, well-done, and descriptive. I found the Vikings' origins and their progression through Europe interesting and well-presented in a solid, consecutive manner. The presentation of their historical timeline made it easier to follow along and understand the information, as well as gain a credible amount of knowledge on the subject matter. Most of this information cannot be found readily or easily, so it was nice to see Brown really took his research seriously. The author paid great attention to detail with writing this book and even included a whole section of quotes by Ragnar himself and his crew. Though I would've liked to see his quotes distributed more heavily throughout his section where they were more applicable to the current story being told, it was also very impressive to see the list of them laid out for us. Ragnar's section was very interesting as well - it gave the readers a solid character to follow through the first part of the novel and provided us with a strong example for a good Viking figure. I've read a decent number of Celtic legends and folk tales, and Ragnar's section had a similar, relate-able, story-feel to it that reminded me of these tales. His presentation, adventures, and brave, true character heightened the positive image of the Viking, which served as a strong setup for the rest of the Viking history. My only qualm here is that Ragnar's story almost took a backseat once Chapter 2 came along, and I would've liked to see some of his information expanded upon so that we could get a more even taste of both his life and the Viking in general. Overall, a solid read, and a great way to find out more about Vikings. Would recommend.

I guess I never knew too much about Vikings so this book was an eye opener. I love how Brown highlights Lothbrok's many different times in his life where he fought through odds to become the person he was. I like that he highlights the areas where he travelled and just how he conducted himself in life and in all of his affairs. This book is written very well and was very easy for me to follow. I love what Brown does with his words and I think he is an excellent author of history books. Great job with this one!!

Not what I expected
I was very excited about this book. I recently got into Vikings, the TV show, and as usual, I started binge-reading and binge-watching everything Viking-related. I thought this would be a fictional story of Ragnar Lothbrok but it's more a study-paper with no chronological order. I have a ton of respect for the author, who clearly has a big passion for the history of Vikings, but I think his writing style is very amateur-like. To give you an idea, I felt like I was ready someone's homework from History class.

An interesting documentary about Vikings
This is a very insightful book, filled with tidbits of all the Vikings quests. Since as early as 500 BC did they rule. Not afraid to explore the lands. With their perfectly crafted ships, they manage to rule the seas for over 2000 years. They were at times brutal in their endeavors over land and sea but it gave them the upper hand. Definitely a book worthy to read.

Great, informative read.
My daughter cane home from school with a list or subjects to do a report on. So ofcourse I come on amazon to find a book on her subject she choose, Vikings! I was very pleased by all the information this book contained for her. It went into the legend of Ragnar Lothbrok, and other Vikings all over the world like Russia, England, Scotland, and France. My daughter made an A+ thanks to this book. Definitely worth the purchase.

Title confusing.
About Viking history, not much about Ragnar

Good book.
Good book, but I was expecting more details about Ragnar's life. The tittle suggested me that. I am a little disappointing, because I'd like to read more about Ragnar's battles. Overall, the history of the Vikings is well described by the book.

the truth
A more historical approach to the legend that was Ragnar Lothbrook. Unlike the numerous use of tv use of Ragnars name, this book looks a bit more into the facts and who the real Ragnar would have been.... A bit like our King Arthur

Vikings
In the old days I have become more interested in viking history, but had to buy some abroad because they cannot be brought in Sweden. It will be interesting to read about Ragnar Lothbrok. Maybe something is right with the good TV series.
