Awesome pad
Brilliant feeling pad. I've given it some proper hammer while watching TV. Still as good as when I got it barring 2 beater marks

Very pleased. It sounds more like a base drum
Very pleased. It sounds more like a base drum. Much better than cheaper alternatives. Ease of assembly and appearance are good features. I really like and recommend Gibralter to others. It's a 5-stars rating.

Good Response & Feel, But Requires Some DIY
Although I am generally happy with my purchase, this is solely because of the extra effort I went to afterwards to make it work in my home. So my warning to potential buyers is you will most likely find there is work to be done! Unfortunately, the three spikes behind the pad used for stability and grip are no way near practical; be it on a thick or low pile rug, or hard floor or rubber surface. This is what stops the pad from working as we drummers intend to use it - we need something that can withstand repetitive and varying force. This instability also means you won't be able to enjoy the surprisingly great thud this pad can actually produce when it is secured. Of course, if you have a surface you are willing to screw/nail the pad down into and use permanently, you may have an easier time than I did as someone renting a property. So... I headed to Homebase to buy a 18mm thick board of plywood (which I sawed and sanded to the measurements of my pedal and the pad when attached), as well as a rubber door mat (which I cut to the same measurements and used partly to fill gaps underneath/grip the pedal), a few washers and some screws. The screws were used to replace the two floor spikes and had to be long enough to go through the plywood and rubber mat underneath (approx W4.5-5mm L50-60mm). But there remained considerable gaps underneath the baseplate of the pad, due to varying pedal footboards and the height they grip from: for e.g, a DW5000 raised this contrapment higher than the basic Tama pedal I am using to practice with. Therefore, I had to place some felt underneath the two 'feet' at the front, eliminating further rattling sounds. All of this can be seen in the photo I've shared. One more thing that should be mentioned is the volume. This is why I partly decided to use the materials above, in hope of reducing impact noise and the 'drum effect': if you are intending to set-up on any floor built with timber frames, the impact noise will resonate like a drum allowing sound to travel considerably to those below you, and possibly even next to you if you live in an apartment/back-to-back. Sadly, unless you soundproof your floor, this cannot be helped. However, if you are able to set-up on the concrete ground floor of a house, I believe you will probably be able to practice without concern for neighbours! I hope this review and the clip helps with expectations - there is a great product behind the lazy fundamental design basically! P.s, my old Tama is pretty noisey unfortunately, but something robust and almost silent like a DW5000 would deliver even better results for home practice.

Not quite a suitable option for practice
You can absolutely use this pad to practice your footwork, however it is not a quiet practice pad, and the spikes aren't suitable for any powerful hits. I set this up on my usual drum rug and played as I would with a normal bass drum, but it kept sliding - same problem as mentioned in a few of these reviews. If noise isn't a bother for you and you aren't putting much power into it, it works fine. The pad surface is responsive enough and there is plenty of surface area for single or double kick set up, but the above points should be considered.
