Girlhood: A darkly compulsive YA story about love, death and obsession

I’ve not read the book yet but I’m looking forward to it.

I liked this book a lot especially all the twists and turns through between the friend group and it was sad to hear about the terrible things that had happened in Kirsty's and harpers lives. But I didn't like how it took so long to describe somethings but all together a good book.

I enjoyed this book right from the start. Cat Clarke built the suspense throughout the whole book, which made me constantly want to know what happened next.Harper goes to boarding school in hope of a fresh start after the death of her sister, Jenna. When Kirsty joins the school a new friendship starts to form between the girls.I was constantly suspicious of Kirsty and did guess a few things but there were still a few surprises for me.Harper is a troubled teen trying to deal with her grief and guilt over her sisters death, this made me feel for Harper and I warmed to her character very quickly.This is the last book by Cat Clarke that I had left to read until she writes another. I am sad to have finished it. I have thoroughly enjoyed all of Cat's books.

Bit paint-by-numbers

Easy to read escapist page turner which addresses girls growing up and growing apart. Not too triggering but touches on the tragedy of anorexia.

This book is one of the best I have read. The storyline is gripping and you really feel like you are living the book.It has just the right balance of seriousness, humour and friendship. The friendship between the girls in this book really reflects friendship in real life.I loved this book and couldn't put it down 👍

I am always a fan of a YA book that doesn't have a romance as friendships (particularly female friendships) are possibly the most important relationships in our teenage years, far more than romances, and they do have a great impact in later life. This 'throwback' to boarding school stories intensifies the relationships and offers a fantastic look at how consuming friendships can be. Also brilliant to have LGBT representation without it being a massive overriding theme.

I love Cat Clarke but Girlhood was a little disappointing... It was good but not my favorite. Torn was amazing 😍

A group of girls, two of them very queer, going to an expensive boarding school, the main character trying to deal with the loss of her sister along with the guilt because she thinks it's her fault her sister died in first place? Let me tell you, this book gave me the goosebumps.Meet Harper, a bisexual girl who recently lost her twin sister and best friend Jenna because of anorexia. All she wants to do is escape the guilt she feels because of the role she played in Jenna's death and so she decides to go to a boarding school, forming this unquestionable friendship with a group of girls, her roommate is a proud lesbian called Rowan. She can count on her and her other friends, she tries to live a normal life but then a new girl shows up who can give her something the other girls can't:Kirsty has lost a sister too. She knows how it feels like to be left behind when a part of your soul suddenly leaves your life. But something is really off with Kirsty.Kirsty likes to show up where Harper is, their lives are absolutely alike in so many, too many ways and while Harper tries to be there for Kirsty, help her with the problems (and lies), Harper drifts away from her usual girl squad, away from Rowan and away from herself.It's hard to go into more details without spoiling it all but at some point there was a shotgun and I was so scared for something awful to happen. While I wanted Harper and Rowan to become a thing, it also was quite refreshing to not have a romance in a YA book for once. Still, I wouldn't mind a novella about them being happily in love finally, they truly deserve each other.Something I didn't like about the book was the length of it. Even though it was 'only' around 350 pages, it dragged a little at points. I absolutely loved how fierce Rowan was and loved her pro queer and pro feminism speeches so much more than I thought I would.If you're looking for a dark but also funny book and like to discover secrets of very vivid and well written characters this book is your must read. I enjoyed most of it even if sometimes it was a bit long-winded.

I will read anything by this author.Great book !I really enjoyed this book. It will be a great read aloud book for the grade 7/8 kids at school.

This story was so entirely gripping that I couldn't stop reading. That's a rare quality in a book, so I would absolutely recommend it to anyone!
