Really good shaver at a great price
Product turned up today as had next day delivery with Amazon prime. Unboxing - nice and simple, as I have read in other reviews it comes with a 2 pin adaptor, the shaver and a trimming head - only downside is that you do not get a bag to store these in. Use - you are able to use after a quick 5 minute charge which I found impressive. Prior to using this I had not shaved for about 3 days so had a decent length of facial hair to try this out with. I do not shave everyday - I get away with every ther day and I am not the type that has a 5 o'clock shadow by midday. Result - I managed to get a really close shave, better than my previous Phillips shaver which I owned. I used soap with the razor. The razor did not clog up during the shave, I was prompted by the unit to clean it after I had finished shaving. I had missed a patch or two but this was easily remedied as there was plenty of charge left in the razor. I have really sensitive skin and my previous electric razor would give me really bad razor burn. This was not the case here, no razor burn at all and a good finish!! I am aware that some people have marked this razor down for the cutting ability - I have personally not experienced this.

Excellent smooth shave
I have an old shaver which is not cordless...its served its purpose over the years but was noisy and took a long time to get a decent shave. I thought this shaver might not be what I thought, because it's so quiet and smooth. I find it is better to use as a wet shave because it glides over the skin even using just soap and water, but if you use a gel, then it doesn't get better. The added bonus of multi-directional shaving heads easily removes difficult hairs under the chin and around the neck area. The fact is its turned out to be a comfortable and quick shave. I've even used it when having a bath...what a luxury! This shaver is also easy to clean and fits nicely in the hand. Some have said the 'ON' button could be switched off because it could be covered by the thumb...but not so...you simply place your thumb on the side of the shaver when shaving, it isn't a problem. I would however have liked a case to put it in. All round a lovely product...and a pleasure to use.

Decent razor, RRP is way over priced, but when discounted a decent buy
I've always been hesitant to spend alot of money on razors and shavers but thought i'd take a punt and give it a go given as it was heavily reduced (£150 down to £60). I wouldn't have bought it at the full asking price but if i had i would be disappointed. When it arrived first impressions were good, its a decent size and feels well made. It's got a slight rubberized finish to it making it easy to keep hold of even when wet. It comes with trimmer attachment for the old side burns and is just a pull off and push on system for swapping between the heads. Initially it needs a 5 minute charge, used then a full hour so i followed the instructions and was reasonably impressed. The shave is fairly close but it struggles with longer hairs. a quick blitz with the trimmer attachment to remove any stubborn long hairs before finally going over to smooth it out seems to work well. The shaver does seem to struggle with and thicker hairs as well. I suffer from shaving rash and after several weeks of using it (dry shaving mainly) I don't get much at all with this shaver. The shave is pretty close and leaves very little in the way of short stubble. Overall I really like it and would recommend it.

Great Philishave, recommended.
I didn't review this as soon as I got it - I thought it was better to use it for a week or so before giving my opinion. It's replacing an older Philips wet and dry rechargeable razor which is probably about 5 years old. The old one just stopped recharging, so time for a change! Initial impressions are that it's a little bigger than the old one and the heads are a lot thinner and flex more to follow the contours of your face. It seems to give a better shave than my old one although that might just be because I hadn't ever replaced the cutting heads on the old one. The reminder to rinse it off every time you use it is handy and it seems to hold a charge very well. All in all, a worthwhile replacement and I'm very pleased with it.

Good basic shaver, but missing a few trimmings
I have coarse, black facial hair which is a nightmare to shave. I generally find wet shaving quicker than getting a half-decent shave with any electric shaver. Which kind of spoils the point, doesn’t it - they’re meant to be convenient and quick… So the battery in my previous shaver (a Braun) finally gave up the ghost after about 6 years, and I decided to invest in a new one. Having read a number of reviews, I decided to give this Philips shaver a go. >>> FIRST IMPRESSIONS The shaver looks and feels well made. It's quite light and looks very swanky. Out of the box, sadly, the shaver had no batter life whatsoever, so I plugged it in for a charge. The battery indicator LED shows red when empty, and pulses white while charging, which is neat. When charged it goes out, which took 2-3 hours from fully flat. >>> PERFORMANCE First shave was from a couple of days’ growth, to see how the shaver handled it. While there was no tugging, and the shaver glides effortlessly over your skin, it did take about 5 minutes to get a decent shave. Philips recommend moving the shaver in a circular motion, but at times I felt like I was almost scrubbing my face with the shaver, in an effort to catch those pesky flat-lying hairs. That said, there were no real ‘problem areas’ - it managed to shave my top lip pretty cleanly, right up to my nose, and didn’t leave much on the neck area. I did find afterwards that a few hairs had escaped. Not fantastic performance on only a couple of days' growth. Another few minutes' scrubbing with the shaver and the escapees had been rounded up. Second day was much more promising. With one day’s growth it shaved pretty cleanly in around a minute with minimal effort. I've now had the shaver for almost 2 weeks, and can pretty much summarise it as follows: if you shave every day, you can get a decent shave in 1-2 minutes with minimal stray hairs. If you don't shave every day, or miss a day, you'll pay for it with a longer catch-up shave! The shaver really seems to struggle on more than 24 hours' growth, which is a pity. >>> BATTERY I've had the shaver nearly 2 weeks, and the battery is yet to need charging, despite daily shaving. I'm slightly disappointed at the lack of battery indicator, but I knew what I was getting into when I chose this particular model. Is it going to give me plenty of notice when it needs a charge; is it going to suddenly stop mid-shave, or is it just not going to turn on one morning, leaving me unable to shave that day? That said, it's hard to complain when the battery seems to last a considerable amount of time, and I knowingly bought a shaver without a charge indicator. It does, apparently, have a low battery indicator, but I'm yet to see it! I suppose if you're often away from a charge point, investing in a more expensive model with a charge indicator could be a wise choice. >>> DESIGN So Philips seem to have two different core designs for the Philishave these days - the ‘classic’ design with the pop-up trimmer, and the new/ergonomic design with the clip-on trimmer. In retrospect I’d rather have the convenience of the pop-up trimmer than a smart-looking shaver. Both my Braun and my old Philishave had a pop-up trimmer on the back, and I still go to use it, before remembering that I have to take the head off and replace it. Which I just can’t be bothered to do, it’s too inconvenient. I'm not keen on the 'snap on' trimmer head at all, I don't like having to snap the head off my shaver, it feels like an accident waiting to happen. I used to use the trimmer on my old shaver every day, to tidy up my sideburns, etc.. I've only used the trimmer on the S5420 twice - not because I haven't needed to, but because I find it awkward and worrying. Looks lovely, but design seems to have won over functionality here! >>> SUMMARY Not bad, for the price, but feels a little bit 'no frills'. If you shave in your own home every day, and aren't bothered about an attached trimmer, this would be a good shaver for you. If you don't shave every day, rely on a long-hair trimmer, or are often away from a shaver point, I can't recommend this shaver. As you go up the Philips range you DO get a charge indicator, a case, and apparently a better shave. Personally, I don't want to spend £200+ on a shaver, so this is the right price point for me. But if I was buying again I wouldn't go for this shaver - I'd get one of the "old" style Philips shavers with the pop-up trimmer. I'm not bothered about what my shaver looks like, the shave is more important to me!

Great Shaver and Looks The Part Too.
Really like this shaver, its got a great colour, very close shave and is just better than anything i've had before. When you shave, just make sure you do it over a sink because all there is no inbuilt feature to catch the hairs, they will just fall down (This is obvious to me, but some people may not know this when looking online). Its easy to use and clean and i don't even use it with foam. Although, when i did use foam, it did feel slightly nicer. Although there is no battery level indicator, it gives you a warning when you need to recharge it. There is a 5 minute quick charge feature, but usually it takes about 1 hour to fully charge. Simply just charge it at night if you know you will need it the next day! I hope that someone finds this helpful!

Excellent
I had a Philips rechargeable razor for over 20 years and was always pleased with it. When it finally gave up I bought a cheaper one but it didn't shave nearly as well and I have been resorting to wet shaves for the past few years. Now that the price of this razor is down to an affordable level I decided to go for it and I'm pleased to say that the shaving performance is even better than my old one. It is very light and manoeuvrable, the cutters floating over the skin. It cuts stubble, long hairs and the thinner hairs on my neck without any problem. I haven't tried it wet as it works just fine dry. The trimmer attachment also works well. An excellent razor now at an excellent price!

Good shaver but could be more powerful...
Bought this shaver as the battery in our very old Remington was getting very weak. BUILD: - The shaver body feels nice in hand and of good quality - The shaving head is more on a fragile side and the plastic trims are rather thin. - It's fully waterproof so there is no risk of water getting into the motor. PERFORMANCE: - the battery is very good and lasts a long time. Mind we use it only couple of times a week. - The flexible head although nicely flowing over the skin doesn't seem to be powerful enough, our very old Remington which had only one head would get rid of more hair in one run than this one after a few and this I believe is by design to prevent the blades from pulling the hair and cutting into skin. - The blades don't rust (we've had it for over a year) and according to the manufacturer don't require lubricating as they use skin's natural oils for that. - I'm not sure how other reviewers are using this shaver but we've had it for over a year and the head hasn't fallen off once. VERDICT: If you're looking for a shaver that can be used on dry or wet skin with shaving gel and don't mind spending extra few minutes to shave then this shaver won't disappoint. if you require a more "aggressive" shaving then consider a better model.
