Now watch the epic Hunger Games franchise from start to finish. All four films now available in one Complete Collection boxset, featuring: The Hunger Games Gary Ross directs this sci-fi action film based on the best-selling novel by Suzanne Collins. Jennifer Lawrence stars as 16-year-old Katniss Everdeen, a citizen of the totalitarian post-apocalyptic country of Panem, formerly the United States. Every year, the all-powerful ruling agency known as the Capitol selects one boy and one girl from each of Panem's 12 impoverished rival districts to fight to the death on live national television in a contest known as 'The Hunger Games', in which the winner is given food to feed their entire district for a year. When her younger sister Primrose (Willow Shields) is selected as a contestant, Katniss steps up to take her place in the match. Under the tutelage of inebriated former champion Haymitch Abernathy (Woody Harrelson), Katniss goes into training for the fight of her life. The Hunger Games: Catching Fire Jennifer Lawrence reprises her role as Katniss Everdeen in the second instalment of the sci-fi adventure trilogy based on the novel by Suzanne Collins. Fresh from her triumph in the 74th Annual Hunger Games, Katniss, along with fellow winner Peeta Mellark (Josh Hutcherson), returns home to District 12 for some much needed rest. But soon after, while on a 'Victory Tour' of the other districts, she becomes aware of growing dissent to the Capitol's rule, and realises that rebellion is in the air. As Panem prepares itself for the third 'Quarter Quell' (75th Hunger Games), autocratic ruler President Coriolanus Snow (Donald Sutherland), still smarting from the Capitol's humiliation in the last games, stacks the deck to ensure that the upcoming tournament will wipe out any resistance from the districts once and for all. The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part 1 The worldwide phenomenon of The Hunger Games continues to set the world on fire with The Hunger Games: Mockingjay - Part 1 , which finds Katniss Everdeen (Jennifer Lawrence) in District 13 after she literally shatters the games forever. Under the leadership of President Coin (Julianne Moore) and the advice of her trusted friends, Katniss spreads her wings as she fights to save Peeta (Josh Hutcherson) and a nation moved by her courage. The Hunger Games: Mockingjay - Part 1 is directed by Francis Lawrence from a screenplay by Danny Strong and Peter Craig and produced by Nina Jacobson's Color Force in tandem with producer Jon Kilik. The novel on which the film is based is the third in a trilogy written by Suzanne Collins that has over 65 million copies in print in the U.S. alone. The Hunger Games: Mockingjay - Part 2 The Hunger Games: Mockingjay - Part 2 brings the franchise to its powerful final chapter in which Katniss Everdeen (Jennifer Lawrence) realises the stakes are no longer just for survival--they are for the future. With the nation of Panem in a full scale war, Katniss confronts President Snow (Donald Sutherland) in the final showdown. Teamed with a group of her closest friends--including Gale (Liam Hemsworth), Finnick (Sam Claflin) and Peeta (Josh Hutcherson)--Katniss goes off on a mission with the unit from District 13 as they risk their lives to liberate the citizens of Panem, and stage an assassination attempt on President Snow who has become increasingly obsessed with destroying her. The mortal traps, enemies, and moral choices that await Katniss will challenge her more than any arena she faced in The Hunger Games. The Hunger Games: Mockingjay - Part 2 is directed by Francis Lawrence and features an acclaimed cast including Academy Award-winner Jennifer Lawrence, Josh Hutcherson, Liam Hemsworth, Woody Harrelson, Elizabeth Banks, Academy Award-winner Philip Seymour Hoffman, Jeffrey Wright, Willow Shields, Sam Claflin, Jena Malone with Stanley Tucci and Donald Sutherland reprising their original roles from The Hunger Games and The Hunger Games: Catching Fire . The impressive line-up is joined by The Hunger Games: Mockingjay - Part 1 co-stars Academy Award-winner Julianne Moore, Mahershala Ali, Natalie Dormer and Gwendoline Christie. Good value collection for new fans, but lacking in special features
I love the Hunger Games books (having read them after seeing the first film) but it was Jennifer Lawrence in the films who truly brought the character of Katniss Everdeen to life. The first two films are the best I think, the last two suffer a little from being drawn out (these being the last book split into two. Somehow, the latter 2 films managed to fit in a lot of detail, yet still cut out parts of the book. Certainly good value to buy the whole series if you are interested in any of the films by themselves. The pace of Mockingjay Part 2 did seem a little slow sometimes. But the entire story is a compelling one overall. What was disappointing however, particularly for fans waiting for the box set, is that there is no bonus material in the DVD set. It features an outer card sleeve and some new artwork, but there are no special features or deleted scenes, only with Catching Fire. Furthermore, The Hunger Games disc has written on it 'Movie', which clearly shows it to be surplus stock from the 2DVD individual release. Seems a little cheap. Normally I am the first to say that there shouldn't be new material in box sets as if fans are expected to buy the films again for the new material, but I did think there ought to have been at least the special features from each of the individual film releases in this. More ashamedly, all the effort went into the Bluray release instead, with exclusive artwork and postcards and bonus material etc. Not fair. But still, a great value collection in a stylish box.

More than I expected.
I bought this 'compilation' as something to watch while I spent a solitary, lockdown Christmas Day in preference to rewatching 'Mission Impossible 1-4' or my 'Cary Grant Collection'. A convenient diversion; something to shut my brain down for a few hours. I did not expect much except a 'mindless summer blockbuster'. The story has all the familar tropes of a sci-fi/fantasy film, which I assume is the result of the source material (Collins' books). The subjugated population, the reluctant hero/heroine, the evil 'dictator' whose arguments make a valid, if inhuman, argument, the bad that turns out good, the good that turns out bad. The plot is asinine at best and laughable at worst (again, thanks to the source material?) and the dรฉnouement is so obvious as to be almost funny. But the film was not meant for such as I; a male so close to retirement age that I will still be drawing down my 'free bus pass' in a couple of short months. And yet, for all of its 'faults' (to my mind at least), I found it oddly engaging and worthy of recommendation, if you like that sort of thing. Jennifer Lawrence is pretty enough (not beautiful) to engage but Sutherland gives a masterclass, as Coriolanus Snow, in soft-spoken 'under-acting'. Turn your brain to idle, watch it end to end; you will not be too disappointed.

Highly recommended
So this is specifically a review of the Blu-ray box set. Firstly, it has to be said that the picture quality and sound quality are outstanding if you are using any sort of home cinema system with a decent screen and sound setup. If you want to see and hear your system at its best, this box set is well worth getting. The films themselves will appeal to anyone who likes movies based on possible dystopian futures. Basically the premise of the films is that the country is split into districts and, as punishment for an uprising against the authorities many years previously, each district is required to submit two youngsters to take part in the Hunger Games, which is a nasty, heavily televised fight to the death between the 'tributes' submitted by the districts. Not for the faint hearted, but the films are about much more than violence. They are about the way in which the country is ruled and oppressed in the future. Highly recommended.

You'll hunger for this steelbook
I'm not going to comment on the actual films as I don't think that is the purpose of this review. The steelbook is lovely with full face portraits of 4 of the main characters on the front, back & inside artwork of the item. The portraits are black & white but have red flashes on them & this coupled with the matt black backgrounds gives the entire steelbook a very striking appearance. There are only 2 holders in the steelbook which gives it a neater inside that most multi disc steelbooks but having 2 discs on each holder is a bit weird until you get used to it. Removing the discs initially was a little difficult but after that they come out easily. The discs themselves are also striking & they are are much, much prettier than a bog standard blue disc. All in all this is one of the better looking steelbooks & having a magnetic lenticular cover to put over the front is the icing on the cake. This lenticular is top quality & very distinctive. If you like the films it is well worth paying the little extra to get the steelbook over the ordinary 4 disc blu ray
