Pearson Edexcel AS and A level Mathematics Pure Mathematics Year 1/AS Textbook + e-book (A level Maths and Further Maths 2017)

Very useful pure maths textbook to start your AS journey. Examples and exercises are well laid out but explanations can be a bit pithy. I've found myself scratching my head (and it's not the dandruff) figuring how they got to the next step in the solution, but ChatGPT does the trick in most cases. I think if you have support or are taught, this textbook is fine. Otherwise you may find it a bit too concise to get your head around the more complex algebraic manipulations. Just keep practicing. The Edexcel exam for pure maths (P1) lasts 2 hours and covers pretty much the entire curriculum, so be prepared to practice with past papers and sitting and concentrating for that time!

This book covers all pure maths topics for year 12 (AS-level) and the notes are clear and concise. There are lots of exam style questions and review exercises with answers at the back of the book which are helpful for practice. Recommended.

Having finished the A Levels, I can say this book was immensely helpful. Most of the time it is good enough on its own for learning new maths content, although sometimes I need to watch YouTube videos to help me understand the topic better. The book has plenty of practice questions. I find the most useful ones are marked E or P, as they are more similar to the exam questions. You can find the solutions online at PMT’s solution bank, so no problem there. Essential as it makes learning so much more straightforward, although expensive.

Each page comes with1)tutorial step-by-step on each topic2) easy practice questions ranged to very difficult3)exam style questions at end of each topic4) hints/ tips on how to remember everything5) (ONLY IF YOU BUY BRAND NEW) an online/digital version with more practice and video solutionsHonestly I love this book so much this is like my maths holy bible. Without this i would not be able to pass it. If your child or you are considering doing maths A level please please get this book!!!

Having recently left a negative review for a new GCSE text book which was badly laid out, I thought I'd leave a positive review for this book, which I really like. My background: I'm a private tutor, and have been using the book daily now for around a month. The layout is so clear and easy to navigate (not too cluttered but still all the necessary information). There is some colour but not too much - I find this crucial to make it easy on the eye so you can concentrate on the actual maths. There are worked examples, and plenty of practice questions, labelled P if they are "Problem Solving" and E for "Exam Style".Each chapter has a paragraph at the start explaining why it is useful / real world applications. There are answers in the back and a couple of "exam-style practice papers". There are also 3 review exercises - after each block of 4, 5 or 6 chapters. There are notes in the margin with suggested investigations where Geogebra or other technology might come in useful - very useful for old dinosaurs like me who need to get to grips with the new A-level and associated use of technology.Altogether a great book, if I could give 6 stars I would.
