Easy Guitar Tunes: 30 Fun and Easy Guitar Tunes for Beginners

Hubby wanted to learn the guitar, I came across this book purely by browsing. He is already trying harder tunes.

My brother gave me a guitar for my birthday - I had one as a kid and learnt to strum some simple tunes on it that I was required to sing along to - which is unfortunate because I am not that good at singing. I lost interest and gave the guitar I had then away. Along with the guitar he gave me for my birthday he also gave me Ben Parker's How to play guitar: a complete guide for absolute beginners Level 1. The book shows you how to finger pick simple tunes like twinkle, twinkle little star and some other single note variations of other well know tunes (when I say single note, I mean that only one note is required to be played at any one time through the pieces - ergo monophonic). I liked the idea of finger picking but other tutorial books looked to throw one in the deep end so to give myself a bit more variety and practice I got this book to compliment the original tutorial book. A reviewer pointed out, rather comically, that the tunes in this book are mostly kiddies nursery rhymes and simple tunes kids would be familiar to. I am grateful to that reviewer as having a very young nephew, I could solve two problems with one stone - I could learn simple tunes to play to my nephew while also developing my finger style. Some of the tunes don't sound quite right in that they have been over simplified but most of them sound fine and I like to play them. I am also using these simple tunes as a basis to master more advanced techniques such as hammer-ons and pull-offs. As far as I am concerned, it does the job.

Called easy guitar tunes but if you can't read music then it's not easy. Was hoping it would show you the strings and not notes.

A great book and a really handy companion to the How to Play Guitar by the same author. A perfect place to start for my young nieces (and their dad) with their Christmas guitars. Although I should have bought three copies.
